Hi Jordi,

Great work on the Class 321,

I just noticed this on enigmasim: http://www.enigmasim.com/forums/index.p ... topic=1101
I was just wondering whether the Train Simulator 2014 Class 321/319 will be delayed or postponed for similar reasons as the B737 project?

All the best,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Thankfully the 321/319 and all future projects will not be delayed because of what's happening at Enigmasim. That post is largely regarding other members of the company. If anything it should speed up my developments as I am able to devote more time to TS rather than FS.

I'll tell you what, I thought that people could be vitriolic on here but by crikey how you didn't just open up and ban that bloke over there is impressive.

Couldn't agree more... That guy's post actually made me laugh, and only stuff on Facebook ever does that to me. I can't believe that there are some people out there that are so ignorant as to think that developers do what they do because they have no family, friends or a life at all to that matter.

Quite like the look of the cab shot on AP's page Jordi, there's really no addon for TS that I know of which actually has dust and dirt on the windows (something which any train would have on the windscreen), which I'm a bit surprised about. I suppose most addons don't have the same texture map size so it would be hard to create dirt which looked realistic, as you'd be staring at it the whole time...

There are of course some drawbacks to the massive texture sizes (though they seemingly don't outweigh the positives) - namely the massive file size; 64MB for a single uncompressed texture. Myself and Jordi have discussed (or argued, whatever you wish) about their use but one point is for certain: A huge plus of using a large texture set is the reduced draw calls or context switches as you can physically fit more stuff on a larger texture sheet, reducing the need to load a new shader for a new polygon.

Umm......what??? :-? I think you and deltic009 may have the wrong end of the stick, I was not intending to be disrespectful to Jordi, I am totally aware that he has a family and life outside of developing, I was just simply asking him if these factors would slow progress on development of the 321/319, but of course I know that family and real life is way more important and should take priority over sim developing...

Wait, are you B737Pilot from the Enigmasim forums? That is the post we're talking about in case you're getting mixed up. If that was indeed your post, then using the term 'lame excuse' to describe priorities in someone's personal life doesn't really give me the wrong end of the sick, it's a totally un-called for statement.

Ben, I think they are talking about a posters response on the FSX forum you linked to.

Yes, I didn't notice that Ben linked the Enigmasim forum thread, so I'd assume it wasn't him. Check a few posts down on the Enigmasim thread you linked Ben to see the post by B737Pilot, who is the one that wrote the response myself and Deltic009 talked about.

Oh, my bad, I am not B737Pilot or anyone from enigmasim, I thought you were talking about my post to Jordi on the 321, sorry my fault there!

Sorry to post this here, but as I don't have FB its my only way of 'communicating' with the "unwashed masses". (The Public)

Anyhow, I have been inundated with PMs/emails etc with people asking me when the 321 will release. I've seen so much speculation around various corners of the web about possible release dates I felt it'd be best if I just give a nice definitive answer:

Q: When will the 321 be released?
A: I don't have a clue. Honestly, its not something I've thought about at all through-out the development process. If someone asked me for a rough estimate I could look at what is left to do and give a release 'window', but the very nature of development means its not 'linear' work; Things that only take an hour on paper can take days in practice, due to unforeseen obstacles. For example, if you'd asked me for a release date back in July my best guess would've been late August.

This post won't stop people speculating release dates, and deconstructing the wording of various comments made by AP, but I feel there should be something 'official' as AP's page and my inbox has basically become a place to ask when the 321 is out.

I was discussing this with a fellow developer, who suggested 'silent' releases; keeping a project under wraps until its 'finished' and ready to release. I have to say I quite like this idea.

I agree silence until release would be a better idea, even on here you look excitedly for an update on a familiar WIP thread only to see it bumped by someone saying "I know you said you don't know when it will be finished, but any idea when it will be out."

The only downside to a silent release is you will STILL get people complain they didn't know to save money so they could buy it the second the file has been uploaded to the file hosting.

Where have I seen that phrase before?

Interesting to see the post was edited- the only thing removed was an alternative phrase for "the public" at the end of the first sentence, however its not an offensive saying at all which is a bit strange. :-?
