Planned Routes

Post by bigvern »

Could the mods look at making this thread a sticky, as per the similar named thread in the RS forum?

I've started to recreate the Sagano line from Densha De Go 1 and DDG Professional. The route runs for approximately 20km from Kameoka through a steep mountain gorge before passing through the suburbs of and terminating in Kyoto. It was one of my favourite DDG routes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagano_Line

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagano_Scenic_Railway

I plan to focus on the "scenic" line, which is how it was depicted in DDG. Obviously it won't look very Japanese but at least the geography should feel right. If you zoom in with Google maps you can get the track plan at most Japanese stations. I think Kyoto will be somewhat simplified in my version though!

In time, I hope to put together a few more of the classic DDG routes in Railworks far more satisfying than building yet another lookalike UK route! Another fascinating classic is the Hokuhoku Line (DDG fans will remember this as the one with the extended tunnel sections and station in a cave!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokuhoku_Line but a bit longer at around 80km. Another interesting project would be the line used in SL de Ikou (Tomy) from Otaru to Niseko on Hokkaido.

With Tomy and Taito no longer producing their train games and the existing console versions out of production and hard to find, I think it's important to try and ensure the memory of these classic games lives on as they were an inspiration for many of us during the pre MSTS etc. days compared to the likes of Simudrive or the SIAM driver games.

I never thought your routes were 'just the same'. The Far North route has a very unique feel and is great.

However your proposed projects sounds very interesting.
Thanks for your routes wherever they are.

Hi all,
The Central Route has ported over to Railworks and I am just about to start work again. It covers a fairly large area including Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. Hope to have some new screenshots soon if all goes to plan. I am currently working on the Liverpool to Runcorn modern day section. I have got to Liverpool South Parkway and the large Junction there and have done Runcorn with the Ship Canal and the Mersey with Bridges. Filling in the rest between these two areas atm.

Hi guys,

Some of you may already be aware of what I am currently working on but if not, here goes.

My main project is the Newcastle to York modernisation which will be available for both Rail Simulator and Railworks. A complete revamp of the original route, all track has been relaid with current speed limits, fully electrified where needed, re-signalled, stations updated and lengthened, Darlington North Road added plus lots lots more from a long list. The route is now in the final stages and will be available in the coming months.

Secondly, I have a fictional Railworks only route called Cresston, of which V1.1c is already available to download at UKTS. Initially devised as a two tier route to enable future extensions to two lines rather than one, V2 is well underway and will feature the current V1 lower level based on an unelectrified Cross Country/Transpennine route, a high level electrified high speed line and now a heritage line that joins to the high level line at a unique station enabling traffic movements through all three sections for Railtours and special movements. V2 currently stands at around 45 miles and like the original version, will be a full route full scenery placement and full operational capability.

Both routes have plenty of progress screenshots and videos on this site.

Thanks for the tip mate, but do you really think I would have done 6 months of work if I hadn't already made consultation on the issue? However, if you weren't to know, it is nice to see someone looking out to make sure people dont fall into a trap. I can imagine it is easy done.

I've just converted the Great Central over to RW and am also starting the Gloucestershire - Warwickshire line, after which I may do the South Devon, as with the GWR to run the 2251 and 37.

Most complex of the preservation possibilities is perhaps the East Lancashire Railway, on which to run the 37, 47, 55, 5MT and 2MT.

I've just started work on the Nottingham-Lincoln Line (my local branch line),though it will probably be in two parts: Lincoln Central to Newark Castle, and Newark Castle to Nottingham. Should have them finished in a few years or so....

In addition to Cornish China Clay (http://edwardcasey.blogspot.com/), I've also been working for about 6 months on the stretch of the ECML between Doncaster and Peterborough (set in the 2000s) and it is now well advanced. I've laid all the track including the Syston and Peterborough line out to Ketton to include the cement works and basic signalling is complete in the up direction. I've started scenery at the Doncaster end. You can see some screenshots of it here http://donctopete.blogspot.com/.

However what with two modern era routes in the offing I am debating some form of steam era route to try at some point and current thinking is all or part of the Waverley route, but that is some way off yet.....
