Peterborough to York (Modern) scenery update (WIP)

Post by secludedsfx »

I've been busy at work changing the scenery of Creative Rail's route to make the route really shine and I'm happy with how it's been progressing so I thought I'd show off what I've done as well as explain what I plan to do.

What it will require:
GEML
ECML London to Peterborough
WCMLTV
Peterborough to York Modern

What's done/being done in first version:
Track and ground texture changes
Close vegetation changed to 3d trees
General scenery updates
Addition of Neutral Sections

What I plan to eventually do:
Change Catenary to ECML London to Peterborough's
Change signals to UK Pro
Create new Quick Drives incorporating adverse signals and a variety of stock

As one of many unable to obtain CR's route I was interested in your project. Do I take it the route "needs" further work or are you improving the overall realism of the route?
I find that the large 3D trees appearing in routes not very realistic as to shape and colour - far too pale for the UK. Have you looked at the trees available from
http://modely-msts.cz/objektyrw.html? Some very realistic foliage which Fakenham has used to great advantage in his WIP Norfolk route together with SAD's from Germany.
May be worth a look?
Best regards

It's a little bit of both.

For something made with just custom and kuju assets it's pretty good but these days you have way better asset bases than kuju and that's what I've used.

In terms of your comments about the cz trees I'm actually not a fan of them but I think trainwork's update of the geml modifies the bin files of the trees to display the cz ones so I'm sure for you it would spawn them instead.

Thanks for that information - very helpful to point me in the right direction.
Kind regards

Looking good :) .

Will you be in a position to release these mods, dev permission wise?

Yeah, WCMLTV may be the tricky one I'm thinking I recall the manual.

Surely that would screw over the GEML mod also coming out soon then as that relies on WCMLTV too?

The Thomson EULA pours scorn on payware use of their assets, I was thinking more in terms of the route dev themselves.

I recall in the past a mod was released for CCfE in it's pre-Steam incarnation and it disappeared rather quickly after a permissions issue.

Aha! thought I. A route improvement is always welcome and I started reading your list and came to a grinding halt at '3D trees'.

IMHO, these are an abomination and as life-like as a plastic aspidistra; one of the worst 'good ideas' ever to emerge in TS scenery assets aside from being frame killers- viz the latest offering from JT. Was the scenery maker deranged using those awful 3D creations?

Your project, carry on and good luck with it. Sufficed to say, I chop he blighters down in all my routes and replant with the hoards of very good woodwork oout there.
