Importing height data into editor

Post by Mitsunari »

Okay this is starting to annoy my a little bit. Deciced to dip my toes into the world builder and have a try at creating a route. Deciced to remake the old Whitby to Scarborough line as I use to go on holiday and stay at the side of the bridleway that follows the path of the old track.

After a little bit or work I managed to get the google overlay to work so I know am in the right location. I've been trying to import height data needed for the route. I have the .HGT files for the section of the country that I need. I have created the following directory.

D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\RailWorks\DEM\SRTM

yet when I press the import SRTM files my maps as flat. I've even used a program named mircodem to check the original HGT files i had to make sure I was importing the right area. I can't see a reason why its not editing the landscape to the right height. Anyone got any suggestions to why this isn't working correct.

Hi

I am puzzled by the reference to SteamLibrary in your path. The DEM folder sits in the Steam/steamapps/common/railworks folder along with all the railworks folders including the RailWorks.exe application.

I think the reason for SteamLibrary in the system path is because I have my Train Simulator install in a none default location on a second hard driver. The directory for steam game on my C:\ is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common this location is set aside for FSX so no other game are installed here. Then for the D drive its D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common you think the file path might be causing the issus with importing the .hgt files? Nothing else has had an issus locating Train Simulator on the system.

Hi

I think the file location is OK then if all the other RailWorks files are in that same RailWorks folder.

Double check that your height data folder is actually named SRTM and not STRM (a common error)

This is a useful guide as to which files you need : http://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info. ... ileid=7390 : The file names correspond to the bottom left hand corner of the square or squares that contain your route. For example, I think you would need files N54W001 and N54E000 at least for Whitby/Scarborough and possibly N53W001 & N53E000 for a bit lower down. It might be useful to store as many files as you can around the whole area.

Does that help
