Google Earth Overlay - Out of sync?

Post by riggs386 »

I'm very new to (TS2014) route building, having spent years using MSTS, so it's a steep learning curve. Anyway, what I'm trying to do is edit an existing route (a copy of WCML over Shap) - for my own use - and use the Google Earth overlay feature, which will be so useful (and what I longed for, in MSTS) ... if only I can get it to work properly!

I've set up the API key in Google and pasted it into TS2014 Graphics options, saved it etc, and when I enter route editor and, for example, fly to coordinates N54.8910, W2.9342, It takes me to the north end of platform 3, just where the train shed roof ends, on the down line, at Carlisle Citadel. That's pretty much bang on, according to the real world, as are all the other known points I've entered (I love that route - I just marvel at the amount of work and detail that's obviously gone into it.)

However, when I turn on Google Earth overlay, two problems are evident:

1) The same point on the overlay is 970 metres to the NNW of the real location.

2) Great chunks of the real world are missing - I've tried various settings in the graphics options but I still get massive gaps between adjacent Google Earth tiles, where there is no data.

I'm hoping it's something very obvious I'm doing wrong - and I can sort it out quickly?

This is what I'm getting - the edges of the Google Earth tiles look like they're adjoining tiles, but separated by a big gap.
