hi,
I am trying to build a route from scratch and have been following a tutorial video called map overlay (No. 12)
It sounds easy when I watched it but have got stuck where it goes onto Static Maps API
I can turn this on but nothing seems to happen.
Help please, what is the next step?

I don't know exactly what you can't achieve Don. Is it that you can't get any further than Static API or you can but can't access the API KEY? If it is the latter, then the tutorial that Trainsimulator sent out of which I obtained only yesterday, gave me problems too.
I selected Static Maps API but the expected box with the much needed gobbledygook API Key didn't show. What the writer of the tutorial failed to mention was to select SERVICES in the left hand menu list also, then you get the API KEY. I found this out just by watching some YT videos.
Hope that helps you out.

Is the API free
Re: understanding Google API
It is indeed.

Re: understanding Google API
Go to the google developer's network, find the 'static map service' page and generate an API key which doesn't cost anything, just paste it into the field in TS and it'll work.ryan51 wrote:Are you sure it's free as when I try to get the api it say's i've got to pay for it
Turn on the static maps api here: https://cloud.google.com/console/projec ... /apiui/api
Then generate a key here: https://cloud.google.com/console/projec ... credential

Please re-read my post fully and you'll find your answer... Or you could actually try it out rather than ask a question that I've already answeredryan51 wrote:is it free to use though
