So, to put a new spin on things I'm going to do some line reopenings of my own as a different idea.
I wanted to know a few things before starting off. Which route has the best mix of track (that is super-elevation and overhead AC compatible), signals (with theatre boxes) and signage by default for modern era. I want to keep payware usage to a minimum here.
On the signalling, is there any sort of signalling that can make a junction signal clearing at 15mph for replicating prototypical signalling practices, so that you get one yellow at preceding signal and then the red for the junction signal 'pulls off' at about 200 yards unless it's set for the high speed mainline?
Thanks

Re: Want to try route building - a few preparatory questions
Maybe try the new GEML for an all rounder, or WCML-N (you can make your own track rule to implement super elevation). In my route, I have two payware route requirements. Those being Edinburgh-Glasgow and Settle-Carlisle. I think two payware routes is a fair number.
As for the signalling question. I'm no expert (because i'm yet to signal a route in train sim) but as far as I know, you can enable approach control in train sim. So you should be able to trundle up to a red signal and have it clear to green.
Callum.

Thanks for the feedback, looks like need to learn about creating (or modifying) track rules to suit then. I've tried the approach control but the preceding signals have flashing aspects if you use approach control which is prototypical for high speed diverging routes, not slow ones.

I'm afraid the answer to your signaling question is no.
The signals consult the occupation table for each block of track to determine if it is occupied or clear. They do not have any way that I'm aware of to determine speed.
I'll have to think about whether there is a way to fake it.
