Creating a track rule.

Post by callum1122334455 »

So far, when I route build, I use default trackrules like settle-carlisle track rule.

Say I want to make my own track rule, how do you go about it?

Thanks.

You either need to start from scratch in the Blueprint Editor in the railworks directory, or edit an existing one in Notepad or other equivalent. I suggest you do a forum search and have a read... like me, because I'm in the same position. ;)

So to clarify that I'm doing this right.

To make a track rule from scratch, I;
[*] Go into the blueprint editor
[*] Create a new folder under 'RailNetwork' called 'TrackRules'
[*] Create a track rule blueprint in this folder
[*] Change all the parameters to suit my requirements
[*] Click 'save' when I am done
[*] Click 'export'?

One question I have is: How do I know which style of track I will get when I create the track rule blueprint? For example, if I wanted the Settle-Carlisle track, how would I do this?

Thanks for the ongoing help. I'm still learning

Identifying which track is referenced by which file name is very much a case of trial and error... unhelpfully, the file names are not often very descriptive of the track type they represent.

You can always add more track types than you intend to use to your track rule, so for example the Settle to Carlisle tracks (which live in ...Assets\RSC\SettleCarlisle\RailNetwork\Track) appear to have three main versions and a couple of yard and tunnel variants; adding all of these to your track rule gives you the option of using any of them, but you lose nothing if you choose not to use a particular one, if that makes sense.

Oh, and when you enter the file name in the blueprint editor, you have to enter it with a .xml suffix, not .bin

Thanks again

What is the method of associating track to a track rule though. I'm not sure how this is achieved :-?

I can't see anything in the blueprint about track types.

After some fiddling and sweating, I seem to have done a new track rule.

I get into the world editor and my track rule seems to work but it has no name, it just appears blank text.

Also, In my dev folder, under 'RailNetwork/Track' Is it correct to paste the track types that I need into this folder? like this:

There is a section near the bottom of the blueprint for a "display name". :)
