Bulleid Loco Hauled Stock

Post by gopher »

A couple of WIP shots of a Bulleid Semi Open Brake Third Corr. The first of the set. All textures are place holders and will be changed ( no bump maps etc. ). I'm modelling the set with deep vents suitable for the larger sets. Lots of external detailing still to do, plus the innards. Yamsi you have reply to PM.

Looking good! At last the proper coaches to go with all those Bulleid Pacifics... A certain buy for me!

Very welcome Gordon. May I ask what diagrams you will be modelling?

Thanks for the comments everyone. As for Diagrams, these are provisional and subject to change, as the Southern coach configurations are even more confusing than the LNER ones, as to what ran with what. So far chalked in are the SOBT Dia 2123, CF Dia 2552, CC Dia 2318, CT Dia 2019 and BC Dia 2405. Still need one or two more such as restaurant/buffet. Not keen on the Tavern set. Unfortunately it looks as if the CF and CT were post nationalisation so wont be in pre-nat livery.
Also looks as if I got the large vents wrong, as these seem to only have appeared post nationalisation. According to my references all 4/5 and 6 coach sets had 15" vents. This can't be the case pre 1949. I'll probably do two versions one with 10 1/4" vents and as is with 15".

Any help from Southern buffs would be appreciated ( especially vent info ) as would further diagram suggestions, especially a restaurant car.

Thanks Gordon. What reference books are you using? If I have different sources I'm happy to consult them for you.

At the moment I have "An Illustrated History of Southern Coaches", "Bulleid Coaches in 4mm Scale" and "Bulleid's SR Steam Passenger Stock", plus two works drawings, one for the SOBT and one for the BC. More drawings on order. The diagrams in the Bulleid Coaches in 4mm Scale seem accurate when compared to the works drawings, unusual considering most drawings you find in books. Could do with drawings for a dining set, though I have the ones from the Bournemouth set ( with solebar skirts ). From what I can gleen these seem to have been used elsewhere on the system, as well as the Bournemouth trains.
Any other reference material you could recommend?

I think you have all the reference material you need there.

The Southern E-Group website also has some useful material and plenty of expertise on its email forum:

Yes already found that site thanks. Time to organize a couple of visits to preserved examples. I'll post regular update shots here.

Looking forward to more progress reports. It would be great to see a corridor PMV in the pack - or perhaps a future multi-regional passenger van pack to address this strangely neglected area for TS.

Nearly finished the SOBT. Just minor detailing to do, and swap out large vents for the smaller ones. Post a couple of shots later today. I'll have a look at some NPCS stock. I've already covered LMS ones, they are uploaded here.

Still a WIP, all textures temporary but getting there. Still some minor details to add such as worksplates, also still need to swap out large vents. In Southern livery.

Note to Mods, can you please rename the Topic "Bulleid Loco Hauled Stock".
