Help Installing Stuff!
Hey, guys, I am new to Train Simulator, and just picked up a copy of TrainSim2014, and I was wondering, how the heck do you install third-party content? I have the Steam version, and I cannot install anything! I'm used to Trainz Railroad Simulator by N3V, and the Content Creator Plus for installing items, and I have never even used TrainSim... please help!

Re: Help Installing Stuff!
Hi and welcome to the forums.
If the stuff you're trying to install comes as a .rwp file then you need to use the Package Manager.
This used to be accessible from within the game but now it's not...hardly surprising that folk have bother with it!!
If you use Windows Exp;orer to navigate to where you have Steam and the game installed, go to the ..\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks folder and right click the Utilities.exe file. Choose "Run as admin" (or administrator, depending on what flavour of Windows you're using) to ensure that your user account gets the elevated privilages needed to install stuff.
The utilities will now load and you'll see a tab in the middle of the top row labelled 2Package Manager"
Click on that and then (optionally) the "Refresh" button on the left (this just forces the utility to generate a list of what you have installed, not really needed when adding items but handy if you ever remove stuff)
Now click the "Install" button and navigate to where the .rwp package is, the installer takes over and you just let it do it's stuff. If you get any prompts for confirmation read them properly (!)
Although written for an earlier version of the game, this tutorial will help:

thanks for the tutorial, however, I'm not sure if I understand all the... uh, instructions... You see, I have the disc version, got it at WalMart for $20.00USD, or 12.20 pounds, which surprised me... Anyways, do you think you can upload some pictures of what you're explaining for Windows 8? I hope so...
Yours Truly,

Re: Help Installing Stuff!
There's no difference between the disc or downloaded editions of the game; in fact during the install the disc based edition will download the newest files from the Steam server so once it's installed the disc becomes a nice shiny coaster
I don't have Win8 so can't help you there but http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/95 ... s-8-a.html shows various ways run a program/applet as Administrator. It actually may not be necessary to elevate the privilages initially, I'm used to doing it that way as I run as a Standard User. Try running utilities.exe without elevation first, nothing to lose.
Once you've the utilities running it's very similar to the pictures in the tutorial, but of course if you get stuck there one of us will put up more recent screen shots. first job though is to actually get the applet running; how far have you got?

OK, lets go at this the other way round; what have you done to try and get Utilities.exe to run?
