Hi all,

I've ended up with a weird querk with my Steam folder, which I've put off doing anything with for a long time, but think it is now coming to bite me with regards Train Simulator Classic.

I have my Steam games installed generally onto my D drive, but as I have extremely big installs of both Train Simulator and Flight Simulator X Steam Edition I ran out of space and bought a second hard drive (K) which now contains my other Steam games like Train Sim World 2, Tram Sim, Project Cars etc.

On the D Drive my Steam folder has a SPACE in front of the word 'Steam'. I have no idea how this happened. This has caused me problems when trying to install Armstrong Powerhouse products as the installers create a set of new folders elsewhere and I then have to copy them across and overwrite the files in the 'SPACE Steam' directory. Generally this works okay, but I have run into a few problems with missing textures in cabs which I still haven't resolved.

I'm now getting massive problems with the Just Trains installers which I have a feeling might be related to this. I keep getting 'Train Simulator not found in this location' messages and trying to point it to the right place doesn't help. I tried the Registry Fix as advised by JT support, but it couldn't detect 'Railworks.exe'.

I'm at a loss what to do. When I try to get rid of the SPACE in front of the Steam folder title it doesn't let me and says the folder is in use by another application. Even if I were able to do this I'm worried about what it would break as it has been SPACE Steam for years now.

Any help and support would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried backing up your TS installation, then simply removing the extra space using Windows Explorer?

To get rid of the space you would need to start Windows in "safe" mode - it then should be possible to remove the space.
In Windows "normal" mode - If Steam is starting when Windows opens you may need to disable that before removing the space.

If you have any further issues - You could Refresh the Steam Files
How to repair Steam? You might need to refresh your Steam files.
Step 1: Open File Explorer and navigate to your Steam folder.
Step 2: Delete all the files, folders, and programs in the Steam folder, except the Steam.exe executable file and the steamapps folder.
Step 3: Restart your computer. Then, go to the Steam folder again and double-click the Steam.exe to reinstall all the components deleted in the last step. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t open Steam from the toolbar or any shortcuts.
After that, you should be able to use your Steam and play games on it without a problem.

I have done as suggested and managed to get the SPACE removed from in front of Steam using Windows in Safe Mode. That's something.

The JT installers still won't 'find' my train sim install and the Registry Fix app still won't find the Railworks.exe file. I can't even find it manually which is a bit worrying. I think I found a Railworks64.exe file?

Both Railworks.exe and Railworks64.exe are in the \steamapps\common\railworks folder.

How do you normally start TS2021?

I had the same problem with the JT installers a few days ago when I bought MML etc from them. First time for a while.

For some reason my AV system had blocked access to the Railworks folder.

May be worth a check of yours.

I seem to be missing the Railworks.exe file. Just have Railworks64.exe. Working through a support ticket with JT and looks like I might need to verify game integrity. Do I need to back everything up as I've done a lot of scenery edits over the years?

This is a screenie of my Railworks Directory at the relevant place where the 'Railworks.exe' file should be.

Verifying Steam file would replace anything missing
Not sure what Just Trains has to do with a missing Railworks.exe file?

If you have changed the Scenery on a route then back up your \railworks\Content\Routes folder.
If you have amended or created Scenery items you need to backup your \railworks\Content\Assets folder

All sorted now. It was indeed a 'verify integrity' which sorted it and restored the missing Railworks.exe file. Phew. My installers are now working. Thank you everyone. Every day is a school day and know what to look out for in the future.
