Hi All
As joe Whittaker seems to be ignoring my repeated requests for advice....
Can anyone tell me if the many scenarios available for the previous v1.04 version, will still work by copying them over to this new v3.1 version ?
Thanks
Derek
Sorry derek,I’m not trying to ignore anyone, just trying to get my last 13 hr night shift out the way before I come back in and have a look, and a good morning sorry afternoon to you to.as for your question, you can try them but probably will find you will have to make multiple changes to them to get them to operate as lots of areas were rebuilt. At a guess, I'd say that nobody knows yet, probably not even Joe, so have a little patience and don't take it out on him.
The V3 scenarios are not even available yet but, if you wish to try porting over scenarios from the older versions of the route, then why don't you simply try doing so yourself to see if they work, instead of asking? The worst that can happen is they don't run; the best is that they do run, and somewhere in the middle are those that will only run if you edit them, as I did when Joe went from V1 to V2. If dabbling about in the editor is not your thing, as I suspect, then you'll just have to wait until the V3 scenarios are available, like the rest of us. In many updates to routes, scenarios that worked in previous versions no longer do so due to changes in the track layout. You can only try them to see if they work , and if not, it's your choice whether you wish to try to modify them so that they do - it's not the responsibility of the route builder to do this. I'm sure that Joe has quite enough on his plate and it's not reasonable to expect him to check everyone else's old scenarios to see whether or not they work, or amend them so that they do.
Sorry, but that's the reality of the situation.
EDIT: Joe beat me to it!

I am not asking Joe or anyone else to modify any older scenarios to work in V3.1 !!
I simply thought that, being the author, Joe would KNOW if the older scenarios would work in v3.1..thats all.

My point was - you could at least try to see if they work...

Why would he? Whilst Joe's the
route author he ain't responsible for
scenarios written by others. I'm with Ash on this one, try one and see!

When it comes to packaging these scenarios, thinking about just putting the files in a folder with the scenarios name on it rather than creating rwp files, what do you lot think ?or I could use mikes tools to package them separate.
Just takes ages to refresh the rwp packager for me aswell.

Are you sure that Joe DIDNT make any scenarios for v1.04 of the route ? I have a feeling he made some himself. I have so far tried one scenario from the old route and it works ok.

Wouldn't advise you to do that really,if you look at the default scenarios in the route some were reworked versions from v.1 .when i did these it caused loads of problems, one of the main ones being i had swapped the track and found where i had placed Ai and markers the original track hung ,leaving me with woodhead track on some parts and WVR on others etc.
some of the areas more so around the North coal fields have been totally rebuilt track and all. Some scenarios loaded but when you look in these areas there were trains in fields where the original line was etc.big nightmare really.
This scenario pack should be out today at some point with some other stuff to mess with.So id just hang fire and see whats in there .better get back at it ay mate.

Hello Joe I would think requiring users to copy folders to certain locations might get confusing for some people. At least with the package manager most users should know how to use it as its part of the game.Does each scenario have to be separate or cant you create a scenario pack so it installs the lot in one go.
Also before I go just a couple of things for a future update if there ever will be one:
1 The roof in the stabling sheds at Tyne Yard needs repairing its leaking like mad when it snows or rains
2 maybe could have done with a 15mph speed sign on the line into the stabling area.
3 I had an idea of having some scenario action at South Pelaw Junction but discovered there is no destination or siding markers there at all.Not a major problem thou as I can put them in within the scenario editor.
Thanks Newbouy

I’ll add the other bits to the list to do.

Thanks for the advice Joe.
I will remove the only one I copied over from V1.04 in that case.

That's why the smart way to do it is to just create a mirror of the routes folder structure containing just the scenarios--then it's "copy and paste the Contents folder into your RailWorks folder".

Why? If it works there's no need to. Even a scenario with trains in fields can be edited to work; just a simple matter of putting those rambling trains back on the track.
