Screenshot Feature partly removed by STEAM.

Post by 749006 »

In the Game you can use the F12 or Camera Icon and to take a Screenshot
And you could set a folder to save those screenshots to - but Steam has Removed that feature.
You can still set the folder but nothing happens apart from saving a Screenshot for your Collection

So instead of having picture with "Screenshot_MML - London St Pancras to Bedford_52.13510--0.47875_07-59-48.jpg" which was handy if you had a problem you knew the location
Now the same picture is "20200708190509_1.jpg" so you know the time and date and nothing else.
And instead of storing it in a folder of your choosing it goes in to "Steam\userdata\94991995\760\remote\(game appid)\screenshots"
Hi there,

To facilitate uploading screenshots to your profile, Steam no longer stores screenshots in the set folder by default. Instead, you can find your screenshots in Steam\userdata\94991995\760\remote\(game appid)\screenshots.

If you would like an additional uncompressed copy of the screenshot saved to the location you can set, please check the "Save an uncompressed copy" box on the steam > Settings > In game screen.

Please let me know if I can help clarify anything else.

Odd, it works for me. F12 saves a .png file to: D:\My Pictures\Steam Screenshots as selected in the Steam Client settings screen:
Settings.jpg
and using the Camera icon on the F3 or F4 HUD saves a .jpg to D:\My Pictures\.

I use Fraps,, and that saves to anywhere you want + much better quality
Never ever used an "F" key for picures, I use the camera icon, and that puts them in
Steam\userdata\51819753\remote\24010

You have the "Save uncompressed copy" option enabled Andy; what you're seeing is maybe just the uncompressed copy so check if you have the actual .jpg screenshot in the folder Peter's mentioned.

I know, but I understood from Peter's reply to your 'have you tried it' question that selecting that option doesn't work for him.
so check if you have the actual .jpg screenshot in the folder Peter's mentioned.
The folder numbering is different but yes I do have the .jpg in the Steam\userdata area as well as in the ...\MyPictures folder so as far as I'm concerned nothing has changed.

I am usually Offline to Steam whilst in game. Do you have to be Online for this to work?

Does it save the Screenshot as something like 202008051901_1.jpg or in the old style
Screenshot_Munich to Garmisch_48.09218-11.39960_10-48-53.jpg ?

Steam Support have said the information with "Screenshot" followed by the other route and time data is generated by the game

Has the game stopped doing that - I wonder if it is one of my settings?

Peter,

The test shot .jpg I took earlier using the camera icon was saved in the ...Steam\userdata area as '20200805133816_1.jpg' but the one in the My Pictures folder is 'Screenshot_Bristol to Exeter_51.44911--2.58059_14-23-38.jpg'. For completeness the other shot taken by pressing F12 is in My Pictures\Steam Screenshots folder as '24010_20200805133702_1.png'.

Whatever the Steam update has changed hasn't made any difference here, I've had to make no changes to get the screenshots into those folders, in fact I'd forgotten about that part of the Steam Client settings area.

I usually run online but just tested offline and it makes no difference.

Ok.

A bit more searching and my problem is solved

For some reason even though I have specified a folder in the Steam Client the Game is saving those pictures prefixed "Screenshot" in to my C:\Users\Peter\Pictures folder

Thanks for the help Andy
