I "only" have about 275 GB in my TS folder, but I recently invested in a 1TB SSD for future proofing. This is the sweet spot pricewise over here. These drives
are actually only about 930GB of usable space. I would echo Mike's advice to get the biggest you can afford. And, if you can, use it exclusively for gaming.

Re: TS2020 on an SSD?
As does a spinning drive. The disparity in disc space is due to disc manufactures using 1000MB as 1GB, whereas Windows works on 1024MB being 1 GB … so factor that up to the size of todays drives and the *lost* 70GB is purely a *mathematical error*Crosstie wrote:I "only" have about 275 GB in my TS folder, but I recently invested in a 1TB SSD for future proofing. Even mines bigger (170GB) and I've a very slimmed down installation. Rather than physical size, your woes are more likely to be fragmentation/lack of free space on the drive--what size is it rated at?shaun123 wrote:My Railworks folder is 125GB

Only 476 GB in my installation, with a further 22 GB of routes that I moved into separate storage - explains why I had to move TS from my 500 GB system drive to a new 1TB SSD.gptech wrote:Even mines bigger (170GB) and I've a very slimmed down installation. I'm a real magpie for rolling stock - I can't stop collecting it!

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558
Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

True, of course, but I was actually referring to the " over provisioning" that Samsung (and others) build into their SSDs, which, by default, is about 7%gptech wrote:As does a spinning drive. or about 70 GB in a 1TB drive. Of course, this can be adjusted or eliminated by the user.

But why?...with a Terrabyte of space to play with, 70GB is nothing to worry about. Far better to have that "reserve" space for when cells lose their efficiency.Crosstie wrote:Of course, this can be adjusted or eliminated by the user.
Re: TS2020 on an SSD?
It was 1TB, now 230GB left of free space, never imagined I’d use so much, I do have other games installed GTA, COD etc.gptech wrote:Even mines bigger (170GB) and I've a very slimmed down installation. Just run disk defrag, it was 1% fragmented.

You could argue that you "gain" space if you use the built-in Windows compression feature.

Good point just because the OS calculates space differently to a disk manufacturer doesn't mean you have physically lost space - it was never there in the first place. It's just a different naming convention. (False logicAs does a spinning drive.
