Need to swap out some of the kettles for some 1960s Diesels though

When the route was first announced, I did some limited research into diesel operations over the line.

As far as I can make out, DMUs (class 101s) were introduced on the Stainmore line from 1958 operating services between Darlington, Kirkby Stephen and Penrith. Steam continued to haul other passenger trains (including summer specials) over the line until its closure in January 1962.

After the line’s closure, freight trains served Hartley Quarry at Kirkby Stephen from Carlisle via Penrith, Appleby and Warcop. Apparently, Kingmoor class 31s and 26s were used on these services although I have seen a photo of a blue class 40 on a Hartley Quarry service with about seven sheeted hoppers and a brake van. I understand these trains ran through Warcop to Kirby Stephen until 1974 when the line from Appleby was truncated at Warcop in 1974.

I would have thought, given their limited distibution, that a few Class 28 Metrovick Co-Bo's might have graced these metals...

They'd certainly have been found on the WCML section as seen in some of these photos (not mine): https://www.rail-online.co.uk/p61033697 ... #h3649ef4b

The Class 28 CoBo was one of the engines from a previous supplier and I think DTG has the back catalogue

It would be an unusual engine to have in the game but sounds would be very difficult to source

Hi

Downloaded this route yesterday and already I have a few queries...

1. I appear to have two scenarios that are exactly the same...."1535 Penrith To Darlington" using the LNER Holden E4 in BR Transitional colours. and I also have...
"Local to Darlington" which leaves Penrith at 1535 and uses exactly the same loco.
Both scenarios make the same stops and both take 110 Mins.

Is this a mistake ?

2. On the "Local to Darlington" scenario, I lose all "chuffing sounds" and "whistle sounds" on the J21 after the first station stop of Clifton Moor. All I can hear is a faint and very regular "chuff" over and over again.

3. Does anyone know of an easy way to convert all locos (except the J21) used in the route, to the standard "easy way" to drive a steam loco and not the "advanced way" please ? I have no will power to try and learn how to drive the advanced way, and certainly not on such a challenging route as this ! It would seem a shame to swap those nicely designed locos to older models, just to be able to drive them. Please dont say "why dont you learn how ?"..as I have not got the time or patience to do this.

Thanks

Hi Again

The sound issue seems to have dissappeared on a second attempt !

I have also noticed that there are very slight differences between both scenarios. Things like consists of the driver train, and passing AI, but broadly they still seem pretty similar, so my question remains..."is this is a mistake" ?

Thanks

Hi Derek,
If you have the Digital Transaction BR Standards 4 pack, just swap the ones supplied with the Route, they are easy to drive and let the automatic fireman do the work, you just concentrate on driving, as I like the supplied locomotives, I just swap out the player train

Does anyone know what the minimum memory requirement is for running this route and its scenarios without getting stability problems.Ive got 6gig of internal ram and just wondered if it will be enough.

Thanks a lot Newbouy

Hi Michael.

Thanks for the tip off. I will check if I have the DT 4MT Pack.

Although last night I found what seems to help....by pressing the "enter" or "return" button on the keyboard, this switches off "advanced mode". Initially doing a test, this SEEMED to make driving a lot easier. But I havent used it for a full scenario including the climbs etc.

Can anyone explain what pressing the "enter" button actually does ?

Thanks Michael

The J21 isn't supplied with the route (but is ideal for it), have you swapped around locos and duplicated a scenario?

This route is now available to buy for those, like me, who did not pre-order
https://www.steamsoundssupreme.com/stai ... alley.html

There is a Green Button near the top of the page marked Quick Buy and you are taken directly to the buy page where you put your name and email
But I stopped it before going thru the process and hit the Back button on the Browser - I was going to look at the pictures again

A pop-up appeared asking me if I would like a 10% discount to purchase now so I did for £26.55

Just downloading all 5 parts and I'm glad I'm on Broadband :)

Hi Reorte

I have done nothing apart from download the constituent parts for the route and paid my £29.50 ! I never owned the J21 beforehand so it IS included in the route (two standard scenarios). At the moment I havent swapped anything, but if I cant learn to drive the two Ivatts easily, then I will be swapping them.( probably with the DT 4MT's as has been suggested to me).

Cheers

Can you tell me which folder the loco downloads to?

Like you it is one I have not purchased and it is not in the \railworks\Assets\SSS\Stainmore\RailVehicles\Steam folder

Are you confusing the E4 with the J21
I have just looked at the "Local to Darlington" scenario and the loco according to TS Tools is the LNER E4 - Gill Sans lettering

Hi 749006

Sorry..you are quite correct. I dont know my J21 from my E4 !!

The loco that seems it can be driven by the standard "easier" method, is the E4 which appears in a couple of scenarios in the route.

Sorry for any confusion !
