Re: Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield
I've updated the link in my post with the missing file however it doesn't help with that yellow glow under the red. Not sure how to remove that considering we cant edit the geo file. I'd advise you not to bother installing it in that case!

Re: Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield
The big problem is that whilst we could edit the .Geo, it doesn't mean to say everybody else could---put the words "edit" and ".Geo" in the same sentence and many have a nervous breakdown, thinking it's much too difficult. Granted, it will be for a fair number so it does get in the way of this wee project. Do you have RSC's GEML route installed Steve?stevegreen wrote:Not sure how to remove that considering we cant edit the geo file

Re: Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield
Yes Gary, I've got the GEML, quite heavily edited.
OT while messing about with these JT signals I've accidentally figured out how to get rid of the reverse glow. It seems to original author didn't cull the back texture.

OK, bear with me but I'll get you a couple of files to test ASAP---they might open up a new line of investigation. I'd explain more but it's still a formative idea with lots of *fluffy* bits; I may be on the wrong track completely!stevegreen wrote:Yes Gary, I've got the GEML

Thanks to Steve Green for making 2 aspect LED signals, version 1.1 of the route should be released next week. The update will include:
• 2 aspect LED signals & repeaters by Steve Green
• Improved Tameside Council offices
• Snowless track & reverb under bridges & in tunnels
• 2M65 scenario changed to be possible
• Class 40 railtour scenario extended to Huddersfield
If you have noticed any issues with the route, no matter how minor, please feel free to mention them so that they can be fixed.

Great stuff. Thanks for being so receptive to the feedback. It's nice to see that, particularly as the route is a lovely piece of work.PenninePacer wrote:Thanks to Steve Green for making 2 aspect LED signals, version 1.1 of the route should be released next week. The update will include:

Re: Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield
I've finally managed to have a run on the extended route and it's fantastic. There's so much detail in it.
Many thanks for putting it together.

V1.1 out now!
Patch for existing users: https://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info ... leid=39267
Complete download for new users https://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info ... leid=38739
Thamks again to Steve Green for making the signals. The route is much more enjoyable when following a train now that you actually get some green signals.

That's NOT the way to do it.PenninePacer wrote:Patch for existing users:
You should know that today the favoured method is to wrap the install routine in a complicated .exe installer, which deletes the existing installation before installing a fresh, brand new copy of the route. That way you're sure that you only have to provide support for a single version of the route, and if it wipes out any user applied edits to scenarios, or to changes they may have made to areas of the route not affected by the update then tough. That's the price they have to pay for progress.
OK, tongue out of cheek now....thanks for a nice simple way to implement an update...just how it should be, dealing with only the bits actually updated--why reinstall files that work and haven't changed one bit?

Re: Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield
I saw the thread about the large Just Trains downloads so thought I would have a go at making a patch, not thinking it would be that much difference on my small route. I was very surprised when it came out to only 3MB compressed, so it was definately worth doing, there are already 10 downloads so thats nearly 1GB of data saved already.

Re: Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield
It soon adds up--400+ downloads for the full route so if we guess that the original package only had 200 downloads who all apply the patch that's 20Gb in a few hours...quicker and easier for the users, less hammer on the download servers---as a business you'd want to be looking at ways to reduce hosting fees; many have a bandwidth/traffic charge applied.PenninePacer wrote:already 10 downloads so thats nearly 1GB of data saved already.
I have a pretty low opinion of the average TS user's technical ability, but I haven't yet thought of them as being unable to copy and paste folders/files from a .zip archive into the relevant locations within the game; it's basic PC housekeeping when all's said and done.
https://www.choose.co.uk/guide/broadban ... imits.html covers an interesting viewpoint of how much data we use, but possibly the most relevant figure is
at the end of 2015, Ofcom said the average household gets through 82GB of data per month.
meaning that there's potential for the theoretical I've given equalling the total amount of data/bandwidth the average household chews up in a week. Not bad for a tiny 3MB package, or to put it in terms of a single game file---a 1024x1024 DX5 .TgPcDx file is in that ball park.

Re: Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield
There will be a further update to the route in the next few days as I just noticed that the doors are the wrong colour on the refreshed & refurbished variants of the T68, I don't know how I didn't notice sooner, especially as they were right in the original release. The update will also include the Get Our Metrolink Back On Track livery.

Re: Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield
To protect your route, back it up, another idea might be to install the new .exe (Update) into a false Railworks folder and then use Foldermatch which will only copy the new files to the existing installation, thus preserving any special files you have added.
Foldermatch can update one directory from another by any of the following
File Name
File is Missing
File Contents
File Date
http://www.foldermatch.com/
Also can do this between two installations of the WHOLE of TS2010 of from the Root Directory Steam onto blank discs.
Cheers John

And he's right. It's so atmospheric that you'll need to wrap up really warm before venturing into any winter scenario...the route is a lovely piece of work.
Many thanks, PP!
