Re: Ts2020 on Windows 8
Yes, vanilla is basically items from Steam (and the base Kuju folders). I also have those from 3rd parties that arrive using an .exe, which seeks out the base Railworks.exe. Again, these items can be copied over to the working versions. Hence, the vanilla version is a handy backup for your main version. As it happens, I have the vanilla on a HDD, and the working version on a SSD, both within the same computer. But it doesn't matter where you store them - internal or external devices, or even on separate computers! The only one linked through the internet is the vanilla. I never run TS using this version!
In order for the working version to start, you need the Steam app working in the background. I have it in my Start menu, but you can open once you are up and running. I also have it starting with a screen asking me if I wish to go online - I usually say "No". If you try to start TS and are not online, a pop-up appears telling you to Run Steam! Obviously, if you need an item from the Workshop, or to purchase an item, then you need to go online - just restart Steam and navigate to the right menu. Once finished, you can go offline again.

Very interesting Nick,I had a 1GB HDD in my computer prior to my upgrade and it was replaced by a1GB SSD which I'm very pleased with.I did get the the HDD back and it is sitting on my desk - perhaps I should reinstall it!!? Your system sounds just what I'm looking for.
Cheers

I think you may mean 1TB, rather than 1GB! You could synch a backup of your main version from the SSD onto the HDD as well (just in case the SSD fails). There are a number of apps to do that (I synch onto an external drive). You can never have too many backups!dumpadillo wrote:Very interesting Nick,I had a 1GB HDD in my computer prior to my upgrade and it was replaced by a1GB SSD which I'm very pleased with.I did get the the HDD back and it is sitting on my desk - perhaps I should reinstall it!!?
