In the meantime, I was inspired by Richard Maxted's Barclay P Class, which comes with 360 headout views in the cab view, to add the same to the Ffestiniog stock. So far I've added additional cabviews for the Penrhyn ladies, the double fairlies, the garratts, and Prince.
Examples in action (please excuse the occasional poor driving/extended pauses, I was multitasking while doing these runs) :
Prince on an Up service on the Ffestiniog:

Merddin Emrys on a Down service on the Ffestiniog:

Garratt 138 on an Up service on the Welsh Highland:
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/572789096
In my opinion, these new immersive cabviews add a wonderful layer of realism and fun to the train driving experience. Happy to share the cab .bin files with the relevant parties.

I thought I remembered this problem. I had a feeling that I had needed to create double axle bogie so that the pivot point sat between two wheels Bogie bo01wh01 is a dummy and bo01wh02 is the actual wheel. May be worth looking in the bogie blueprint and seeing what happens if you add a matched second axle
Hi Richard.
Sorry I've only just got round to looking at this after doing other stuff. Does the dummy axle have to exist as a node on the model?
EDIT: Don't worry. I'll try without a named node for now and see what happens.

Ok I've followed Richard's advice and re-offset the leading axle of the pony truck bogie by 0.5 (was 0 originally) and then put -0.5 on the dummy and then shifted the whole bogie pivot back in the main blueprint by 0.5
I've run from TYB to RHG with no problems now so fingers crossed we're on to a winner.
If the pivot in the bogie blueprint was directly over the leading axle then this is probably why it got stuck as it was finding it impossible to articulate. Why it never materialised in the up direction is anyone's guess.
rabidcirquefan, since you are well acquainted with this problem, would you mind testing the new files? If they work I'll send them to Steve and the pack will be re-uploaded as soon as possible.

Seems to have done just the trick. I did a test run from TYB to Rhiw Goch too and had no troubles whatsoever. It was the best run I've had with Blanche since she and Linda were released. Thank you for your responsiveness!

Phew! Relief to have finally found the source of the problem!
Thanks for testing, and thank you to Richard for the advice!

Such dedication, wow, i'm impressed. well done. I don't have it yet and am confused about something
Ive seen various posts about Ffestiniog, I have the one that sits inside the North Wales route
I realise this is the narrow gauge railway, is this a stand-alone route ? (it does not matter to me) but have I read something else about narrow gauge that sits inside another route ?
Hope everyone is keeping the virus away as best they can

Too glad to help! Now onto my next challenge:
I've been having a lot of fun adding additional cab views to the FR/WHR locomotives so that I could have a true headout driving experience without being constrained by the built-in rotational limit in the shift+2 headout views. But I'm meeting an unexpected challenge in trying to get good views for Linda and Blanche. I can add the headout views to the cabview .bin without a problem, but since the cabview model was built for the Hunslets' cylinders, running gear, and wheels to *not* be seen, the result looks a little wonky:
https://imgur.com/3FZizc0
Instead, I thought I'd try adding a passenger view to the Hunslets' tenders, and place the camera offset to where the driver's headout should be. That way, Blanche's exterior model would load with all working parts, and I'd still be able to turn my virtual head any direction I please.
To accomplish this, I:
- Copied the passenger view info from one of the FR carriages into the enclosed tender .bin file
- Modified the path names to point away from the carriages and point to Linda
- Took out the occlusion info (since no occlusion would be necessary)
- Selected the tender model itself as the interior geo file
- Made a corresponding tender camera xml file
I then tested.... only for the game to refuse to load Blanche. No worries, I figured I'd made a mistake in copying and tweaking the .bin camera info, so I edited and tried again. I thought maybe omitting the occlusion info might have been what was bugging the game, so I tried various permutations of no occlusion, but Blanche still would not load. I even tried leaving the occlusion information in, but still Blanche would not load.
To make a long story short, I edited and edited and edited, but the game refused to load every time I tried loading Blanche with a tender camera. As a last resort, I copied the carriage camera information whole and dropped it into the tender .bin without making any changes at all, figuring that there's no reason the game shouldn't load, because I know with certainty that all the info would be correct and all the paths and filenames point to the proper places. And yet.... the game still refused to load. But taking out the tender camera entirely made Blanche load perfectly fine.
So now I'm pretty flummoxed. I figure my only option for now is to keep the new cabviews and just deal with the fact that the bottom half of the engine appears missing. Does anyone have a reason why placing a passenger view in the tender simply won't work? Or could there still be hope that I could get a working passenger camera in the tender?
This entire process could have been easily avoided if the default headout views simply let you pan omnidirectionally. I am baffled why the game designers thought it was a good idea to set a 180 degree hard limit.

By "North Wales route" do you mean North Wales Coastal + Conwy Valley Line or North Wales Narrow Gauge route?
The former is partly my work and is unrelated to this. The latter is the pre-cursor to this Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways addon. It isn't required to own it for this new version.
To get the full experience of F&WHR 2020, you would also need from Steam:
- EU Community Asset Pack
- Settle To Carlisle
- Falmouth Branch
- Riviera in the 50s
- J94 and Memories of Maerdy

Thanks for the info, I now have all three !
North Wales Coastal + Conwy Valley Line all Standard Gauge to Ffestiniog, (love this version and the Betws-y-Coed station)
North Wales Narrow Gauge route, which is actually a sceneries version from Caernarfon to Porthmadog section and the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways 2020 which does the whole route but pt1 only at the moment has scenery on the Porthmadog to Ffestiniog section
I thought one of the narrow gauge versions had a tile start position which coincided with another DTG route so one could be inserted in the other but I’m probably wrong.
However as you can see, I have it all sorted now .!!
Over and Out, and my thanks are due to everyone who contributed to these sceneries.

To update my last post, I created a workaround to get a good head out view for the Hunsets. Rather than put the additional cab cams to the side of the engine, I put the camera views straight through the cab front window, as well as to the side of the tender. These make for good 360 "head out" cabviews for running forward and reverse. You can see the mod in action at

Evening,
Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Steve and the other developers who have put this route together. Found this via a Youtbe video after being disappointed with the virtually non-existent UK narrow gauge DLC within TS2020.
I first registered for a UKTrainSim account on here about 18 years ago back in MSTS days and resurrected it today. The last routes I acquired were via posted CD! Within half an hour of getting my account back I had the FR route and stock packs downloaded. My Son and I had a very happy afternoon taking ME up to Tan y Bwlch with the slates.
We were due to be on holiday at the FR next week - quite rightly no longer happening. As FR Members and regular visitors, being able to experience your superb route this afternoon has been extremely therapeutic and is as close to being there as we're going to get for the foreseeable. Only thing I'd complain about is I can't get gammon and a pint of Moose from Spooners. Bring on the future releases and thanks again!

If you search around you will find - under narrow gauge in the downloads section - a few other items that might be of interest. Steve P also has made a Train Sim Talyllyn that I would recommend. There is also some bloke who built a Leek & Manifold line .....

..... which is how I was "converted" into an NG fan, and it is still very much a favourite route. Thank you so much for what you do here ...
