The right way, or the clever way.

Catching up with myself I find there are some updates to JT GWR Mainline. . . BUT
The new version v1.15 only has what appear to be small changes.
1- Route updated for compatibility for Cornish Main Line ADD-ON for Western Mainline update of 10th May 2019.
2- Moved errant lamppost at Hanwell.
3- Numerous minor miscellaneous changes.
4- Scenario fixed: first service to Severn Beach. Added missing scenario marker to enable pathing of player train.

Bearing in mind MY version is, for me anyway running fine, I wonder if I can be bothered to update. . . because it means
Saving all my scenarios
UNINSTALLING via Windows Apps
GWR ML
GWR Bicester Ext
GWR Cornish Ext
GWR Paignton Ext
GWR South Devon ML Ext
Re-installing all of above, going on-line to re register (at my sisters house) my internet is too slow
Working out what scenerios are changed and re-installing them :-?

I have lost the will to live.
I fully understand JT saying this the correct way . . . BUT
Does anyone know of a less tedious way ??

I suppose I could do a fresh install onto a blank disk and copy the changes only

I'm genuinely not having a go at JT it's me I suppose, old & lazy, but surly updating could be made easier :(

Cheers John

John

I know what you mean, but there's a possibility that if you don't update your version, future updates to the route may not work properly. Not a huge risk, granted, but a possibility.

Why would you need to re-register a previous purchase John?

You want surly?...bad tempered rude Yorkshireman at your service!

Does the JT installer still automatically delete a product in order to re-install with an updated version?
If so, no need to uninstall through the Control Panel.
That is only of benefit to the JT installer anyway, the game/Steam doesn't give a Monkey's about where/how/why 3rd party stuff is, as long as it works.
The instruction to un-install is really just to make the support for 3rd parties easier---get rid of the old and there's no chance of conflicting files being left behind.

Make a back up of the route and it's assets, and of course any other associated routes that have also been updated to give compatibility with Cornish Main Line (you do have/are planning to get this aren't you?...if you don't or aren't then there's no need to upgrade anything)
Just run the installer---if it removes the existing stuff that's fine,
Test the scenarios
Then add your older scenarios back one at a time, testing that each loads OK at least before moving on to the next.

It would appear Shirley :D  That you must UNINSTALL EVERYTHING
Here are the instructions from the support page
The product download in your account is updated as and when updates are released, so if purchasing after any of the given dates your product will include all updates prior to that date.
1. To download updates you will need to re-download the product from the 'Your Orders' section of your account which you can log into by clicking here.
2. If you have any Western Mainlines add-ons then you will need to uninstall them one by one before you uninstall your current installation of Western Mainlines.
3. Once all your Western Mainlines add-ons have been uninstalled then please uninstall your current installation of Western Mainlines.
4. Then install the re-downloaded Western Mainlines followed by reinstalling any Western Mainlines add-ons that you have.
5. Please ensure that you are installing the latest version of your add-ons! If in doubt please redownload and install them.
I thought all that would mean a need to re-register

HoHum :-?

Hi, you need to uninstall everything because when you update the base route, it puts the tiles back for the unextended version, hence no scenery - a bit like a verify cache routine. You then have to put the scenery back in with the addon packs - (which have usually been updated when I'm not looking! :) ) So a good way of making sure you have the latest version of each if you have to uninstall each time.
