I think the Q6 wouldn't have been seen over Stainmore - too high an axle load for the viaducts, from memory.

Has been pointed out allready. But similar 0-8-0 did, do I guess the Q6 would at least be a good substitute.

Just been checking for 0-8-0's and West Auckland had a allocation of Q6 from 1956-61,Also Darlington had Q6's as well,Tebey had a allocation some times of 7F 0-8-0.

Yes, Q5's 0-8-0s ran over Stainmore, but only pre 1914... From 1929 until 1942 two Q5's were shedded at Kirkby Stephen, but restricted to the line to Tebay. Post 1914 the weight restrictions imposed on Belah viaduct prevented 0-8-0s from running between Barnard Castle and Kirkby Stephen. If you want to follow the prototype and run Q6s, then pick Weardale & Teesdale (although I admit nobody will prevent you from running doubleheaded 9F's over Belah viaduct)....

As it's a simulation there is nothing to stop you using a class 150 DMU. or Pacer's, and classes 66/70 on freight trains,or back to sectorisation era classes 37 47 56, and class 111,101,105 DMU's

You’re quite right, of course. But for me (and I suspect that goes for you too Mike) half the fun sim is finding out ‘what ran where and when’ during the years of steam, so that my trains fit the time the route has been set in…

Yes I'm more interested in running the right trains and locomotives that would have run over certain routes,one thing I usually do is swap the MK1 and use Gordon's coaches in stead,At the start the Mk1's were used on crack express trains and named trains,

A route like Stainmore would have had Greseley/Thompson Coaches or Stanier Coaches on passenger trains,looking at the locomotives for the 1950's it seems the most likely locos would be BR Std/Ivatt 2MT,4MT and J21,J26,J39

I wonder why you put Class 101 DMUs in that imaginitive list? They worked the passenger services on the route latterly, although this was long before the days of their being called "Class 101".

Sorry - not really a question but a comment . . . you said "I suppose you could use" when I would say you "should use" for the 101 against the other locos and DMUs you mentioned which are only pertinent to a dream world. (I don't object to dream worlds - each to their own even if it isn't my cup of tea).

I remember well seeing them at Penrith, so much more modern than the Derby Lightweights on the Keswick line (so it seemed, ha ha), and I always fancied a ride to Darlington but it was not to be.

I've just gone mad and pre ordered the Victory Works Class J21,if you pre order it you get 10 % off,it also comes with scenarios for the Weardale Route,when Stainmore comes out there will a patch including scenario's for that route as well,

I was only going to use Green DMU's on the Stainmore,route and probably green 25's and 37's

Lots posted on SSS FB page recently - must be close to release...

Looking forward to this, but with VW WD, AP BMG 50, Welsh Marches line and a few other bits, there may need to be some choices made.

Given all above ^^ I shall take a fairly open approach to what to run, including some heavy 8- or 10- coupled stock

I also like to drive the 33 for route testing and learning, so I expect the route will see a “Dutch” Crompton with some seacows, and some suitably noisy EE traction.

Does anyone know what the axle loading limit was for the line / Belah viaduct?
