Does anyone know if one can set the loco up to start cold and dark? Nothing in the manual! :-?

Nope, cold and dark one. Which means the cat is standing in a siding and I want to start it up. :-?

Same again Martin...a rolling start scenario doesn't have to be one where the train is actually moving.

This is half way there.....https://ln.sync.com/dl/6b6db27c0/fnprc5 ... 4-y8anmyb6... really needs a new .bin producing with the loco dead which of course negates the need for a rolling start....

OK, Gary, thanks, well it isn't a rolling start scenario however the file you made goes in the routes folder? I see that the AP 68 EP has a startup routine which is usually enabled in the scenario editor with a command like cold=0, the manual has examples for ETS commands but not cold and dark? All I want to know is is there one? :)

Martin, I don't have the AP Enhancement Pack, but I downloaded the Manual, which as you say, makes no mention of a cold start.

So no reason to believe that there is one or there would be detailed instructions alongside "Setting up the Driver's Cab", which just details the normal Shift+W etc. Plus of course, there is the normal Z and CTRL+Z to turn the engine on and off.

Why do you think there might be a cold start despite this?

I think Marty was expecting a Cold Start because the Engine Start Button is operational which you might only use in a Cold start.

Yes, Peter, you are right, plus the parking brake, it must be possible to script it, just seems odd the function isn't available on the 68?

I think the only AP Packs that feature a full cold start routine are their "new build" stock (class 90, class 40 etc.) rather than any of the enhancement/sound packs.

Pity, guess I will have to save the scenario in that state after switching it off etc and instruct users to select resume rather than start. :-?

So...why not use that?

Because it doesn't work Gary, wishful thinking on my part.
Just seems a bit odd to be able to start an engine but not be able to have it in that state at the start of a scenario.

As an FYI - from Facebook

AP have updated the Class 68 Pack as they have changed the combination of keys that switch the ETH on.
Download the pack again for the version with the changed input codes.

I use the mouse to switch on the ETH

That function has been present on locos dating back to the 37 and 47 that came with the original incarnation of Railworks. It's only relatively recently that some locos have come with a more advanced start up/shut down routine built in. My assumption is that there's only so much that can be done if that functionality isn't present in the base loco; according to the manual for the AP 68 EP it does feature master key on/off toggle and AWS self-test when first setting up to drive.
