Don't know. But that does not matter for the assessment. The "network effect" that occurred when more and more users started using Facebook (in turn making it a more attractive place for advertisers) occurred irrespective of whether the users concerned switched from Myspace or were entirely new users.
I propose to end this economics discussion here - as you can see I like discussing these things (which is my daily job, for example engaging in discussions with competition authorities) but we are drifting rather far away from the original topic of this thread. I think I will actually do a NWC run now to test the "new" 175 sounds!

What does this file from ATS do that the AP Enhancement pack does not?jpvdveer wrote:I like discussing these things (which is my daily job, for example engaging in discussions with competition authorities) but we are drifting rather far away from the original topic of this thread. Re: NWC (175+221) AP Sound Patch
I am not sure that describing a new site as a "threat" to this one is either especially accurate or helpful (is anyone under any obligation to choose one over the other?). It also stands to reason that there will be a significant number of uploads to a new site in the first flush of enthusiasm and publicity for it - it remains to be seen whether the frequency and volume of new content in the months and years to come. Nor should one forget that UKTS does not cater only to simmers interested in Dovetail Games' offerings - my casual reading of the site suggests that the MSTS section (for a programme first released in 2001!) sees a comparable amount of traffic to this section.jpvdveer wrote:
I am not sure to what extent the Site Owner quite realises the magnitude of the threat that ATS poses already now, just weeks after its launch, to the future of UKTS. If not, he probably should be made aware sooner rather than later.
Look forward to the new site going live, hopefully very soon.
There is no doubt that there has been something of a proliferation of sites hosting Train Simulator content in the last few years, but in my opinion if you were of a mind to isolate a single factor in the apparent decline in the quantity of uploads to this site, then it would be the implementation of Steam Workshop functionality for the programme, which allows users to share scenarios - surely the most common form of third party content available - and, to a lesser extent, routes without the need for any external tools or software whatsoever.
Re: NWC (175+221) AP Sound Patch
Based on the nice ride I just had (a recent Vulcan Productions scenario), it copies all of the features of the AP 175 Enhancement Pack to the 175 included in NWC. That way, if a NWC scenario uses the 175 included with NWC, you automatically have all the Enhancement Pack features - sounds, DVD etc. Previously the same effect could be achieved by swapping with RW Tools, but that is more cumbersome. So the Pack does just what the Enhancement Pack does, nothing more and nothing less. I'm a big fan of the calm, relaxing 175 sounds in the AP 175 and therefore find this patch quite handy.749006 wrote:What does this file from ATS do that the AP Enhancement pack does not?

So you're now saying that VP is the de facto home for all new scenarios at least?jpvdveer wrote:Based on the nice ride I just had (a recent Vulcan Productions scenario)
Nit-picking apart, adding AP sounds to stock not covered by an official AP release is nothing new, or hard.... it's been documented in here for ages---interestingly often by a bloke who doesn't have the AP packs involved.
