Sorry about that - my access to the site has been cut off at work by the evil overlords in the Infosec department implementing new net-nanny software. I used to approve posts in my lunch hour but not anymore.

TheCatOfWar wrote:When it comes to assets in a route, the question is generally using vs distributing them. In a route's file you're only ever saying 'look for the blueprint at this file location and place it here in the game', so I don't think a case could be made for that particular issue so long as you're not redistributing other people's assets without their permission

Well... It's a stance, I'll give you that. Not a valid one, for the reasons I outlined, but it is a stance. The only leg that would have to stand on legally is if the screenshots/'promotional material' for the route involved someone elses assets without permission (which is pretty weak and easy enough for the route builder involved to avoid), but as far as using assets in the route itself... you can't claim the route is infringing on the asset creators for simply referencing the location of your asset in the game files, given that the third party assets themselves are not being redistributed in any way.
Of course, in the case of my own routes I will aim to obtain permission to use assets where feasible because why create unnecessary conflict, but ultimately there's nothing legally in the way of using other assets in a route you make money off.

This thread is temporarily locked.
I have received a PM that I need to consider the contents of and since I have to be up early in the morning and have a busy weekend ahead at work I don't know how long that will take.
I would remind members that opening a new thread or posting questions about why this thread is temporarily locked will result in sanctions as prescribed in the code of conduct.
I would also like to emphasise that the locking of the thread is completely without prejudice and does not mean it will remain permanently locked. It is simply to give me time to consider the PM and discuss it with the Site Admin and other moderators.
