Re: RW Enhancer - over-glossy rolling stock
I have had a positive response from the developer:
Hello Chris,
Thank you for the screenshots. So it seems that you don't like the "reflections boost" introduced in RWE. I'm going to make a optional setting for this in the configuration software so you could disable those glossy reflections. I'm always listening to players feedback so thank you for contacting me.
This change should be ready in the 1.07 version which should be released during next week.
Best Regards,
Lonely Bits Games
That's very encouraging, and hopefully will provide the solution! Also great to see a developer responding so constructively, and quickly
Chris

Yes, great news indeed as I may finally use that option too... thanks, Chris!chrisonline wrote: That's very encouraging, and hopefully will provide the solution! Also great to see a developer responding so constructively, and quickly

I’m with you on this, I find it far too glossy especially on older DLC and on windows too.

Re: RW Enhancer - over-glossy rolling stock
Well, v1.07 has been released today, with "Reflections Enhancements" being an option available to turn off, because the dev believes that was the problem with the over-glossiness.
Unfortunately it has made no difference to the over-glossiness problem, nor the "blowout" of white roofs etc.
I have communicated again with the dev but I suspect he may not be able (or willing?) to take it any further. We'll see.
Meantime I have reverted once more to the final "Beta" files which work for me without the glossy problem

I agree it has made no difference to mine as well, and yes I have restarted the pc.

Yes!smarty2 wrote:Did you restart your pc Chris after the change?
Dev has responded to me asking for more pics (not sure what that will show beyond the previous ones) but he says there is one more effect that could be causing it

Did you tell him that the Beta shaders did not have this problem?chrisonline wrote:Yes!smarty2 wrote:Did you restart your pc Chris after the change?

Yes! (of course!) I've given him thorough details.jstange wrote:Did you tell him that the Beta shaders did not have this problem?

Re: RW Enhancer - over-glossy rolling stock
Having just downloaded v 1.08 and disabled the setting I don't seem to notice any difference at all between the setting enabled or disabled.
Still got over glossy rolling stock. Have done a reboot but still no change.

I, too, am still getting the blown-out whites when in the sunshine.

Re: RW Enhancer - over-glossy rolling stock
I see a difference in the amount of glinting from surfaces, at least on the stock I've looked at.
I wonder if window reflection is linked to it (I turn this off) and if it's also route/stock dependent.
Of all the effects the only two I really like are the reduced blue in distant mountains and the improved 2D object texturing, though I've still got a lot of experimenting to do and not tried it all at night. However, in my opinion these two effects by themselves justify the cost.

Agreed, it became v1.08a when I downloaded, but same issues even with Bloom turned down to zero. So the ability to turn Bloom down to zero did not fix it.dledge wrote:Having just downloaded v 1.08 and disabled the setting I don't seem to notice any difference at all between the setting enabled or disabled.

I find it DOES work if Reflections Enhancements is turned off, confirming what I had already told the developer previously. Bloom setting at 0% or 25% is OK, but shine worsens if Bloom is a higher setting.
So I now have v1.08a installed, but with Bloom at 25%, and Reflections Enhancements turned off.
Some older locos and stock (I think it is where DXT3 textures were used rather than the more recent DXT5, but that's only a hunch) can still be too shiny, but that was the case with the original default shaders from DTG, so nothing to do with RWE.
