Class 66 slingshot brakes

Hello all,
Tried to do a search for this but haven't come up with anything, mostly as I can't think what to try, Class 66 brake problem comes up with results for brake problems on a lot of loco's.
Basically, I just tried a run I made with a Class 66 (EWS version, with AP Enhancement) and 24 loaded BZA steel coils. Feels heavy, drives as I imagined it would with such a load and all was well until I slowed down for a red. The brakes were very sharp, speed slowed much quicker than I expected it to so getting close to the red signal I was down to about 10-15mph or thereabouts and was about to stop rather early, so I released the brakes and much to my surprise it slingshot forward and the speed ramped up to 30mph and I went flying through the red
I reversed backwards to come back to the red signal, then noticed that any other time I had to release the brakes on the move, I'd get the same problem, so say I wanted to slow down for a 50mph limit, I'd slow my train down to about 30mph then I'd release the brakes, as the train would then fly off rocket up to 45-50mph.
I've driven the Class 66 (EWS one, with AP enhancement) on various other loads before and I can't recall (off memory mind!) having this problem before
It has been quite some time since I've driven this though.
It drives fine otherwise, it's just rather tricky with the brake situation. Anyone else by any chance had this or noticed it?
