Beautiful locos and they run very nicely! Many thanks Steve (and Xavier) for great work.
I am creating QDs for each loco to enable quick installation into a scenario.
As a 19-year exile in the US, could I ask a couple of questions about operations for the WHR trains between Porthmadog Harbour and Dinas/Caernarfon?
- am I correct in saying that all the Garratts are positioned with nose-forward uphill on the Ffestiniog, and therefore hind-leading uphill on the WHR?
- how would a "typical" working look at Porthmadog harbour? On arrival from the WHR, does it then back into the platform? What then happens before it departs again towards Dinas/Caernarfon? Is there any push-pull involved along the link through the town?
- is it correct that the Garratts do not fit into the headshunt at the end of the platform at Porthmadog Harbour (i.e. to allow the points to be changed for a run-around), or does this need extending a little?
Thanks for your help and again, excellent work!

- Your orientation point is correct yes. The Garratts face towards Porthmadog, coal bunker leading towards Caernarfon and water tank leading towards Porthmadog.
- Before the Porthmadog remodelling, a WHR train arriving in Porthmadog would join the FR platform loop over a single set of points and draw the whole train up some way down the cob.
Another loco on hand, usually Vale of Ffestiniog, would then couple up behind and bring the train back into the FR platform.
The same worked in reverse when the train was going to Caernarfon, with the pilot loco taking the coaches on to the cob and the Garratt coming up behind and hauling the train on to the WHR.
A laborious task and not a manoeuvre that can easily be scripted in TS because it would involve a player and AI loco on the same consist.
- And no the Garratts don't fit in the FR platform headshunt at Porthmadog, they have to use the siding the other side of the water tower where in reality there is another water access point to fill the Garratts.
It's all a very straightforward operation now with the new Porthmadog island platform with an FR and WHR side with their own run-round loops.
I hope one day soon we can have a copy of the route with this arrangement in place for people to use, and there is dialogue between me, Steve and Steve about doing this.

Many thanks to Steve and Xavier, just having a run from Caernarfon to Portmadoc with WHR Garratt 158, great sounds and realistic steaming along the way (with careful use of Damper and Water Injectors), brilliant, very well done.

Thnak you! I wasn't aware that the track layout had been changed to include a loop for the WHR at Porthmadog, which I guess is why a couple of videos I had seen had confused rather than helped!xguerra wrote:- Your orientation point is correct yes. Fantastic to finally have some SAR locos - yes the livery is wrong but it is still a South African loco! Is anyone willing to share some of their scenarios?

Hello,
For anyone looking for scenarios for these wonderful machines, there are a few included in the updated / enhanced scenario pack for the NWNGR route. The old scenarios have been tweaked so you may want to back up those before installing

Enjoy!
NB: I've also had a lot of fun running these engines on the Clear Creek route too
