Re: Bossman Games
The most appropriate steam-era route for the RMN is probably Southampton-Weymouth. Quite a few of them were allocated to Weymouth in the 1960s for Waterloo services and they worked the Royal Wessex and Channel Island boat trains.

Re: Bossman Games
They were occasional visitors to the Western Region on East Midlands - South Coast workings so the Banbury - Oxford section of the Wycombe Railway & Joint Line from the same link is also a possibility.longbow wrote:The most appropriate steam-era route for the RMN is probably Southampton-Weymouth. Re: Bossman Games
Hi
These MERCHANT NAVIES, were allocated to 71B Bournemouth, Weymouth was a sub-shed of Bournemouth
35002,4,5,8,11,21,23,24,27, so they are ideal for Southampton to Weymouth route,
They were used on the BOURNEMOUTH BELLE, as well

Re: Bossman Games
Strictly speaking, Michael is correct. In this context, Navies is right. " In more general, commonly used, contexts, the plural form will also be navy. However, in more specific contexts, the plural form can also be navies e.g. in reference to various types of navies or a collection of navies." So we have a collection of "Merchant Navy" locomotives.749006 wrote:Canal builders?michaelhendle wrote:These MERCHANT NAVIES,
PS The canal builders were navvies.

Re: Bossman Games
Depending on speed, turning on the blower on a bit more and keeping the dampers fully open will help keep the pressure in the boiler whilst the injectors are on.

Re: Bossman Games
I used to see them on the WCML from Euston to the north - in the absence of steam age routes for the southern part of the WCML, Steaming Over Shap would be a good candidate.Drogba11CFC wrote:Which routes would it be most common on?

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558
Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

My poor wallet can't take all this!

so mainly WCML up to Preston. But they did go on longer trips (I saw them in Carlisle and Hellifield) so Steaming over Shap and a steam age version of Settle to Carlisle are good to go. Also along the North Wales Coast (a Steaming version of this is under way)

Thanks for that Nick, I tried looking on the BR Database site but it appears to not be working.
