Trev123, thanks for your reply. I will have to live with that one then until I get Steam sorted, I have not managed to get 64 bit for train sim. any other way but yours only 32bit.

It's not online, it's in your RailWorks folder, or should be, but what I'm after is a step by step breakdown of how you go about running TS-----what do you click on?

Did you just push the ESC key to stop the scenario to stop the game or did you Pause it first?

When I quit TS I press the pause button then the quit button at the bottom of the menu. TS hangs for about 30 seconds before it returns to the main screen where I then press the quit button again and after hanging for about 5 seconds returns to my desktop.

Yes, as mentioned above you have TS 64 bit. You can either start it from your Steam TS Library page by clicking on the 64-bit icon or from your Railworks folder by clicking on the 64-bit icon there. You can also create a 64-bit desktop shortcut from that icon so you can start TS from your desktop.

Trev...there isn't a TS 64bit icon on the Library page in the Steam client, nor is there an icon in the RailWorks folder. What you see in the RailWorks folder is the icon associated with the executable, not any icon file itself. Let's get him running it first before confusing him even more with creating shortcuts, and the first lesson in that exercise should be identifying file type, followed by how to make Windows display the extension of known file types. Don't forget you can associate any icon with any file, so what you may see could be completely different from what others see.


Devon...what you will see in the Steam Client is something like this....



Click on Train Simulator in the left hand list, then when you click the Play button that's to the right you should get this wee window pop up...



so all you do is click in the little circle to the left of

"Play Train Simulator 64-bit Edition"

and the n the "PLAY" button at the bottom of that wee window.
As the game prepares to load you'll get another window pop up telling you you're running the 64bit version.

There is TS icon in your Railworks folder called Railworks64 which I call 64bit icon.

You obviously have extensions for known file types hidden; the full name of that file is RailWorks64.exe, being the 64bit version of the game executable. Icons usually have the .ico extension, but are often contained within .exe or .dll files.

It's much better to describe files as what they are rather than by any pet name we may have for them.

ESC key: pressing this should be exactly like clicking the Pause button in the HUD, bringing up the menu where you select whether you want to continue, quit, edit etc. There's nothing *wrong* with doing it that way, it's how you'd do it if you drove without the HUD.

I had been going straight to ESC key.
However clicking pause first and then ESC avoided the freeze so closed easily.

UP to now I had been opening TS via a shortcut titled Train Simulator or via a Railworks 64 bit short cut I had created following Trev 123 suggestion which also worked.
Since reading and seeing your screen shots I opened TS2019 via Steam Library and right clicked train sim and got a drop down to ts64 bit which does then open with a splash screen TS2019 64 bit version.
With regard to closing TS I do have the HUD open but not used pause previously, since using pause and then ESC key things have closed down OK.

So I must sincerely thank you for you time (I noted the posting times) in getting me out of this mess.

Ok,so i decide to have another bash at the 64 bit version.So i wanted a "benchmark" so i loaded a scenario,swapped the loco all in 32 bit.Off i go, no major issues.So i exit and start up 64 bit,same scenario(yes the loco swap is still there) and off i go.Now i was expecting the usual 14 fps buisness that i was getting in 64 bit...but NO!For some reason,now 64 bit is actually working BETTER than 32 bit!I havent made any changes to my system at all either.So has there been a minor update to cause this or can we put it down to the well known vagaries of Train sim!

Have you tried it since the crash with just the Esc key?...that should just do the same as the pause key and bring up the Continue/Quit/Edit etc options screen.
