Atomic Systems

Hello All,
I downloaded the route this morning with no trouble at all.
Just had a brief run north from York and it is absolutely superb!
Can't wait to work through the scenarios and do more exploring.
Many thanks to Darren and the team for a real work of art.

I also wonder what peoples intentions are here because if this was a route that you had to pay for there would have been pages and pages of comment yet it seems that because it's free it is overlooked. UKTS was once all about the free content but not any more.

Difficult for people to comment about something they might not yet have seen.

Darren did a good job of bringing the Newcastle - York route up to scratch and from the pictures this looks just as good if not better

You are right of course, it probably was a bit harsh of me to make a comment like that. In terms of comparing the route with the older one this knocks spots off it in my opinion. At least on the areas duplicated so far.

They have also released another bit of news about an upcoming update as well with year specific station signs for scenarios. That is interesting to me as i'm a bit of a sign nerd.

It's good...very good
so good that you have to apply the paradigm usually reserved for a DTG product to find anything wrong with it.

That of course means any *faults* reported are from the reporters personal perspective--personally I'd prefer a wee bit more depth to the 'scenery corridor' that's applied to the route. A trivial point, and nobody can say they didn't know that that's how it would be as Darren has documented it and explained his rationale. Also, it doesn't prevent me (or anybody else)m adding more scenery.

The track work is very good---correctly rendered junctions in the main, only the more complex ones have the odd badly rendered frogs or check rails.
It captures that undefinable 'feel' of the location well, you don't need to know the area well to enjoy it.

Given my criticism I can only give it 9.999 out of 10, but as a figure of 0.001 is well within the boundary of that which can be discounted as *observational error* it deservedly merits all the glowing reports so far. Darren has once again demonstrated that he's in that top echelon of route builders, so thank you very much Mr. Porter!

DPS have just posted on Steam that a new version of the route is now available with a few fixes and the addition of the sign kit.

I managed to try out this system last night by not being too complicated and adding the 1990's signs to the provided quickdrive and driving an Intercity liveried HST from Hartlepool to York. I am amazed at how authentically 1990's just the addition of signs made the route feel. I enjoyed the drive so much that I drove the included Grand Central scenario again but that was had modern signs instead and it felt like a different time altogether even though the route had not changed. Using the signs is easier than I thought and it provides much more depth to the experience than I actually thought it would.

I finally got some money this morning so managed to make a contribution to them as well. Totally worth it.

Yes, it does work much better than you'd think---not a fussy job to implement the signs either, so it isn't something that's going to create a whole lot of work for scenario writers.

Yes. I would not say I am a novice but I also know I have a lot to learn too and thought this might have been tricky with a bit of a learning curve. It is nothing of the sort.

On driving again tonight I switched between different years for a local run and even the platform number boards were a different colour for different years.

It has been under our noses for years, buit I am astonished at how different it can make a run feel. And works so easily.

This route is superb! Yet another route that just looks and feels right. Thank you for sharing.
