Closing and Restarting

Hi, for the past few weeks my pc 2-3 times daily suddenly closes then immediately restarts itself.
I have tried everything I know to cure this problem including a few programs to help solve this and had 2 IT people look into this but no joy.
This only happens when playing any Steam simulator games mostly TS 2018.
My pc is only about 9 months old with more than enough specs to play these games, can anybody advise me how to fix the problem.
Regards, Bob.

Do you monitor the temperatures of the various components while you're running TS? It could be an over heating problem.

To me it sounds like either one of your components is overheating or your power supply doesn't have enough grunt.

May not be of any help but are you able to say if it happens after roughly the same amount of time - either game play or more possibly from start up? A few years ago I had a problem where my PC did this after exactly an hour regardless of what I was doing - although as I was usually play TS20xx I at first suspected the game. Everyone told me it was a virus and a number of IT people looked and couldn't sort. Then I found a chap who was sufficiently intrigued to take it away and then test it over a weekend. I think it was something weird like a firmware update that he managed to fix.

Check your CPU temperatures, it could be overheating.

If the PC is only 9 months old it may be worth contacting who you purchased it from they may be able to help.

The two quotes/clues that interest me are
"past few weeks my pc 2-3 times daily suddenly closes then immediately restarts itself."
and
"This only happens when playing any Steam simulator games mostly TS 2018"

If you have had the pc for 9mths without any problems until "the past few weeks" I have to ask "has anything changed"?

Have you added hardware ? moved the pc ? added a new significant piece of software ?
If not has the weather changed, so that the pc is running hotter ?

The next comment "it only happens in any steam game" could give two possibilities, your pc keeps calling steam and it cant cope with the extra load or change in screen resolution.
a) Try playing offline.
b) or that the games you are playing are stressing the pc for a new reason to the point it is protecting itself. but as this has only just started, less likely.

My first bet however is HEAT, either the CPU or GPU are getting to hot, firstly for any of the reasons above OR that the pc needs a clean ! carpet fluff, dog hairs, dust all contribute to the pc componants running hotter, take the side of and look at the CPU/GPU and their heatsinks to see if they are blocked.

Get a free program to monitor the pc when its in use.

Speedfan is one
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
HWiNFO64 is a good one
https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php
This will also RECORD things like temperetures.
In closing if the pc is less that a year old and purchased from a retailer, that would be my first port of call anyway.

Good luck John
Oh BTW W10 has an anoying habit of updateing itself during things you might be doing, it conveiniently puts up a little window telling you this, if you are running full screen this can confuse the GPU. which may cause problems.

What does "Reliability History" record for the "error"?
Open Reliability History in Windows - click on the white cross in the red circle at the time of the crash. Is there a critical error for railworks.exe OR for windows (eg explorer)?
Click on view technical details.
What does it say for the following (if present)

Faulting application name:
Faulting module name:
Exception code:
Fault offset:
Faulting process id:
Faulting application path:
Faulting module path:
Report Id:
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

Have you run basic windows diagnostics: GOOGLE all
sfc /scannow
dxdiag
chkdsk /f/v/x

Hi,
Thanks for your replies to help me fix the problem. I forgot to mention that I can leave my PC on for 24 hrs and it wont crash, only crashes when I play TS2018 and any game from Steam.
Peter I have tried 2 of the suggested accessories so far with no luck will try the others.
It is not a heating problem as I have had that checked, sounds like a hardware problem. I will keep working on it.
Regards, Bob.
