The DB 141 was mainly a passenger train loco used extensively around West Germany on local trains - sort of like what the DR/DB 143's are doing now.
But they are of the same family as the DB 110, 140 & 150 locos

The DB 140's were a freight version of the DB 110 but with a lower maximum speed of 100 kph compared with the 130 - 160 max speed of the DB 110 and without the electric brake which the DB 110 has

The Head/Tail lights don't appear, to me, to be different

The earlier batch of the locos had just the single head/tail light housing - later locos had separate housings for each lamp
It's not like they rebuilt the earlier locos when the livery changed

Strange you say there is no difference with the lights, then proceed to say exactly what is different about the lights. Separate head and tail lights on one pack, combined on another. VR have chosen to model; one type in one livery, the other type in another livery. Not sure what the relevance is about rebuilding, it was simply VR's choice to offer it this way. The BR141 is also shorter, with different grilles and no engine room window compared to the BR110/140.
Apparently Ulf has a speedo showing 140kmh and Maik has ended up with the 120kmh one and they are not sure how it happened. Presumably there will be a patch at some point.

In the ORot package there's 1 loco which has the single head/tail light housing, 2 which have the separate housings. In the VRot package, all 3 locos have the separate housings for each lamp.

That's at least what I see what looking at the pictures on the vR website :)

If you read what you said and what I replied -
You said "Headlights/Taillights is the most obvious thing" and I replied about the single/double lamp housing.
Two locos in Orient Red and all in Traffic Red have the later twin light variant.

Before making a purchase, you should read in, or at least look at, the relevant threads on the German board: rail-sim.de

Apparently, vR cut many corners in creating this BR141 out of the BR140.

The cab has the incorrect BR140 speedometer,
the trucks have no traction motors and sandboxes,
and probably more errors.

vR has updated the release versions to 2.0, already correcting many errors.
more corrections will need another release version later.

It's a good sign vR is dedicated to delivering quality by correcting errors.

I just wanted to say that with it's tap-changer this engine is actually quite fun to drive and if you have all DLC, this is a very enjoyable scenario for this engine in Orient-Red on the S-Bahn Rhein - Main:

Cheers, enjoy,

The 141 is a nice drive, it handles fairly differently to the 110 (different tap-changer control and the lack of a dynamic brake) - just bear in mind the top speed is limited to 120km/h! Alternatively the 146 is also very nicely done, it's also the prototypical loco for the RE services on Cologne - Koblenz (until a couple of years ago when they were transferred away and replaced by a newer batch of 146s!). The top speed of 160km/h on that gives it a bit more flexibility. I suppose it depends on whether you're after something old or modern!

Don't have either the 150 or 185 as freight operations don't interest me much - I'm hoping that the 185 will become a 146.2 at some point, in much the same way as the 145 became a 146.0!

You'll have to expand a bit more Martin, do you want a freight, or, passenger loco, or, universal, what livery do you want it in, orient red, traffic red, BlueBeige, Green, Royal Blue, Pink with Orange spots, c'mon give us a clue, man, we can offer suggestions, then!!!!!

For example, the BR 145.0 was built for freight haulage predominantly, so was the 185. It also depends on what you already have with your Steam routes from DTG, all those you mention above, apart from the 141, I'm sure you get with the German routes, depending on if you have obtained them all, of course.

Have you purchased either of Michael Fruchtl's locomotives from vR, the 145.0 and the 146.0 both look nice models, although, they only come in traffic red. I don't know if they have any major design flaws with them, I haven't seen any questions/queries about them as such on the German forum.

Flip a coin then Martin, you can get one now and the other one in the future. I haven't looked at the website I assume they are both the same price, it depends on how many models you get for your dosh, but, the 141 and the 150, both available in traffic red, sound like ideal candidates.

I am leaning towards the 141, does it drive differently to the 140?

Not hugely, as the 140 also doesn't have dynamic brakes. The main difference is that the tap changer control is Off - Run Down - Drive - Run Up like a 111 rather than having a notch for each tap like the 140. Plus, the 141 makes the classic 'firecracker' noise!

I don't have the 141 personally, matey, it's on my wishlist currently, so, I can't help you on that score, sorry. I know that they had virtually all been withdrawn from service by 2006.

Download the 2 manuals and see if the cab dials and levers, and driving instructions are different, check Wikipedia and the German forums as well.

The 141 drives differently due to the tap changer. It still has that big wheel, not the stick like the 111. And it makes a big ruckus when changing the power output with the tap changer!

I like it.
