Partly because I added the 'T' to the name in error  , but even then using Window's search routine for that file name would have brought it up if you had it.

Does this help ?
Yes, certainly maybe.
Whilst it doesn't give a definitive reason for the crash it does show what the game's been doing immediately prior to it. PreLoad folders hold QD consists and are loaded before the game even considers loading any routes which takes the blame off the Bacup route considerably. Not having the stock those files call for shouldn't cause an issue, the game should just fail to find it and move on to the next item.

So....
Have you got rid of the zero byte file?
With Bacup still installed can you load any other route?--have LogMate running so if still crashes you can see if it's failing at the same point.
If it does fall over,
Can you load other routes with Bacup removed?---once again have LogMate running.
Did you installed anything else before adding Bacup?

Hi Chaps

OK...I have now found THREE "track bin" files with similar names you have mentioned !

I have "PON_track01.bin", "PON_track02.bin" and "PON_track03.bin" in one of my railworks folders, but I dont know which one as the shortcut pointing to the relevant folder, ends before the final level of the folder in railworks that contains them !
So can you tell me exactly which folder/sub folder etc I find these files, and is it necessary to DELETE all of them, or just move one (if thats all thats necessary?) or all of them to a safe place such as my desktop, in case I need them again ?

Also, what negative or side effect will removing this/these files have on the rest of my railworks set up ? As I dont have ANY issues with ANY other route or scenario that I am aware of.

For extra info, I cant run a Free Roam or Quick Drive either..the game just crash.dmps.

Thanks Again

If I knew that I wouldn't have had you searching for it would I?

How are you looking for them?...just use the Search facility in Windows Explorer, navigate to your Assets folder, type PON in the search box in the top menu bar and let Windows chug through your Assets. You'll get a list of every file that contains the letters P, O, and N in the right order, along with their locations.

Hi Gary

See my post above re the fact that I have found THREE similar "PON_track.bin" files !

I can run other routes without any difficulty...just the Bacup one that is causing a problem afaik.

I have also checked for the zero byte files in the location suggested, and whilst I do have the relevant "lua" files, they are NOT zero kilobyte in size...most are 1-4kb in size.

Are the files I have found as mentioned in my earlier post, the right ones I need to be looking for ? And when I was told to DELETE them, would it not be better to cut and paste them to say my desktop, for safety reasons ?

Cheers

If I remember rightly, the PON file that has been identified as troublesome is a track rule, so going by the file names you have they aren't the one(s) as I'd guess they're actual track types. Who told you to delete them?
gptech wrote:Track item first: do you have a Track Rule named TPONtrack.bin anywhere on your system? This is a known trouble causer, even if the route you're having bother with doesn't call for it. If you have it, move it out of your game and send me a copy
so yes, moving a file should be the first thing you try, NOT deleting a file. As you have the track it's definitely worth you finding where those files re located and looking for a TrackRules folder amongst the others in that Assets folder.

No, they're not the relevant files...you'll have "ELR_RT_EngineScript.lua" which isn't "Example_Steam_EngineScript.lua"--even if it's 4KB in size a file by that name isn't used by any of the variants of the Radial so can be junked/moved out whilst you test.

Those PON files can be found in: Assets/PortOgden/RailsimulatorUS/RailNetwork/Track/.
The Port Ogden route is a lovely fictional route with both scenic and urban areas.
I have had it on my system for many years and those bin files have never caused any problems.
The route is available here at UKTrainSim.

Hi Gary, Brysonman and all

I am now out of my depth in relating to solve this problem, which has me (and you all so far !), totally baffled.

It would have been a lovely little route, but I have so many others to play with, so I am throwing the towel in as they say.

The suggestions I have received so far have been much appreciated, and its indicative of just how popular this forum is.

Best Wishes All

Derek
