Just like to add my thanks to those involved in the black fives creation, it is a great looking model loaded with atmosphere, the well used grimy cab is the icing on the cake, together with the superb sounds and physics that make it the most realistic steam experience I have ever had in TS to date. As far as driving is concerned I haven't read the manual and have had no problem running it at all on various routes and trains since first stepping onto the virtual footplate.

Fantastic! :D

Like other users, I'm really enjoying this product and have read and appreciated the advice and tips given previously here.

Just a question re the Water - firstly, the two cab water level gauges on my rig show just an opaque solid display with no visible movement of the actual water level. Thus, I have to use the F5 Hud to know same. Is this as intended?

Finally, many thanks to the creators, etc.

Please disregard my last post about the clarity of the water level in the gauge glasses - I've now cleaned my own spectacles and can now see the water level changing, albeit the subtle contrast of shades of grey makes it some getting used to! :)

I'm Falling in love with this Loco and, will probably go for their Rebuilt Royal Scot next...

Hutton, beg pardon if you are already doing this, but hopefully this will help you with your water reading abilities! If you grab the gauge glass protector, you can turn it round to face you. The back side of the protector has a striped diagonal plate on it to assist crews with reading the water level, as it shows through the water making it easier to read. Try doing that so that you can much more comfortably see it - I find it as easy as anything to see from the driver's position.

Thanks for the suggestion, James - I tried moving the water gauge glass but with no discernible difference. I can just about see the level faintly if I squint! Anyway, I use the F5 Hud as a back-up.
Maybe this can be addressed in a future update? (since, other Steam Loco publishers have managed to get a clearly 'moving' water level gauge.)

Best wishes, Chris (aka Hutton)

I'm really tempted to get this loco after reading this thread. Is the fire mass more manageable than the "default" steam locos? It drives me up the wall having the safety valves constantly blowing. That's the only thing putting me off!

Depends on your driving style and how hard you're working the engine. There is an intelligent built in auto fireman, I do it manually mostly, as you can let the fire mass die down a bit to keep her quiet at the valves - I do on preserved routes, it does become a challenge when coasting, so need to be smart with injectors :D

Would you, please, tell me what are, except 45407, 44871 & 45212, the numbers of the others BR and LMS locos ? I can see numbers on pictures, I saw them on locos playing QD, but I am not sure. If I swap BR and LMS locos via RW tools, it doesn't work.It is necessary to indicate a loco number. That is why I answer you. Excuse my english and thanks a lot !

PS : BMG didn't answer :(

In total there were 842 examples (the largest class of all steam locos), though there were variations in many of the mechanical details (valve gear, gearbox, domes, etc). The numbers were in the range 44658 to 45499 inclusive. Only 5 (45154-45158) had names in LMS/BR days (though some of the preserved ones have since been given names).

Thanks a lot !

But I meant in the games : for example, except, QD, how to drive in a scenario a Black 5 BR or LMS loco, from BMG, which is not 44407, 44871 or 45212 ?

If I swap, using RW Tools, a DTG Black 5 loco or another one with a BMG one, without number, the change will be made, but I can't drive the new loco.

Thanks again
