Re: Bossman Games Stanier Class 5 (Black Five)
The smoke colour is tied to the firemass, at the ideal with the fire door just ajar and the firing flap up the smoke will have a greyish tinge near the base. Once that clears you can fire again. The colour responds to the firemass in that if you go over the ideal firemass it will tend towards black smoke, and obviously under it will tend towards no smoke and steam only. If you open the fire doors it will tend more towards white and if you shut them fully it will obviously smoke up, similarly shutting the dampers can make the smoke a bit blacker.

Thanks for the explanation, Edward!
So I guess that means that if you do not get black smoke, you're a great fireman, Black8!

Yes thanks for this explanation Edward and I am further impressed by the realism of this loco. It really sets a new standard in TS.metrobus wrote:The smoke colour is tied to the firemass, at the ideal with the fire door just ajar and the firing flap up the smoke will have a greyish tinge near the base. Yeah Tim, that is quite the opposite of what I first thought of my firing skills. I am delightedtnleeuw01 wrote:....So I guess that means that if you do not get black smoke, you're a great fireman, Black8!![]()

Re: Bossman Games Stanier Class 5 (Black Five)
I was a bit hesitant getting it as I said the other day, with people saying about the smoke etc. Well this is all explained by metro, and brakes functions etc. Got it today and as other people have said, it sets a new standard, brilliant loco.bigben5051 wrote:Whilst it may seem "realistic", the truth of the matter is that in reality it would take an awful lot of water to blow the cylinders. The first thing that would go would be the piston rod glands but even that wouldn't effect the performance of the loco that much. You're more likely to get a violent slip than a cylinder blow-out. The reason it was not included - which was totally intentional - is that it seems a rather unfair to penalise the player for not opening the drain cocks for a few seconds. Yes, this is a simulator, but it should be enjoyed too and a game over situation is hardly fun.anthonye wrote:I have been watching some utube on the loco. One of them says that cylinder blow is not modelled if the cocks aren't opened in advanced mode. Is this the case as it seems strange that it is not in advanced mode, I prefer it to be modelled as it is in the victoryworks locos, realistic.

I agree with you about not having the cyl cocks blow, all other functions and extras are really great and certainly adds realism and atmosphere.
Great......

To take advantage of the running steam sale, is there a steam route (pun not intended) anyone can recommend for me to buy where BR or LMS Black 5s would feel at home (other than WLOS)? Many thanks!

Thanks a lot I'll check it out. However frankly I was hoping there could still be a payware route that I missed. The installation of freeware routes with a lot of extra instalations where you'll end up missing this and that asset anyway make me tired...

Thanks a lot, I'll check them all anyway.
However, could this be relevant?

Yes, Black 5s would have been seen on this network, though not as common as 8Fs and WDs. Great if you love driving freight trainsjstange wrote:Thanks a lot, I'll check them all anyway.

Re: Bossman Games Stanier Class 5 (Black Five)
Just asking if anyone is experiencing issues with the Black Five following the 'update patch'?
I sadly am still getting the inexplicable appearance of multiple high water warnings right side of screen which will not delete
using the 'x' symbol.
It is occurring when running on any route (S&C, Woodhead, Liverpool/Manchester and
Whitby & Pickering) and usually appears as I cycle through 1 to 5 on semi simple mode at the start of a
run and disappears when it feels like it!
I managed to place the loco 45212 into a scenario 'New Day' on the W&P as player loco using RW tools and upon
starting the scenario the prompts to run the scenario wouldn't delete from the screen.
The loco also responded oddly to commands in particular not braking correctly and moving even when fully braked and reg shut.
Have contacted BMG earlier re the high water warnings and await some response (but I do appreciate they are busy
guys).
I am wondering if there are conflicts with scripting particularly on the W&P?
For me the loco is an excellent addition to TS knocking spots of the Kuju B5 but it is disappointing to keep
having annoying issues.
Anyone able to confirm similar issues and/or offer help to resolve would be much appreciated.

Hi
If you go to steam you could always get the Somerset and Dorset, that was jointly run by the LMS\Midland Region and the Southern\Southern Region
Most of the Locomotives and Coaches were supplied by the LMS\Midland
So the Bossman Black 5 will be ideal for the route
