Wishlist Poll: Diesel, Electric & Other Locomotives

Post by sem34090 »

I have now put together the Diesel, Electric and Other Traction Poll, with Multiple Units and Hauled Rolling Stock to follow.

A few notes: This poll has rather a lot of rather 'niche' locos in it. This is mainly because the major classes are already produced for train simulator! I have labelled the pre-nationalisation categories as 'Pre-Nationalisation Design' as I am aware that some classes, though ordered to pre-nationalisation designs, did not arrive until after nationalisation. The same goes for the Gas Turbine locos.

The list has been ordered as follows:
Pre-Nationalisation Design Diesel (Up to "LNER Y11 Class 0-4-0PM" - A petrol loco, but included here for ease!)
Pre-Nationalisation Design Electric (Up to "SR Bulleid/Raworth Co-Co, Later BR Class 70")
BR Diesel (Up to "BR Clayton DHP1 Bo-Bo")
BR Electric (Up to "BR BREL (Crewe) Class 89 Co-Co")
Gas Turbine (BR Brown, Boveri No.18000 Co-Co & BR Metropolitan Vickers No.18100 Co-Co)
London Transport - Including LSWR Waterloo & City (Up to "LSWR Drummond Bo-Bo Electric Locomotive")
Industrial Diesel & Electric (Up to "Harton Colliery Siemens Bo-Bo No.E2 & E10")
Narrow Gauge Diesel & Electric (Up to "Wingrove & Rogers BEV 4W Battery Electric")
Other (Kitson-Still 2-6-2T/1-Co-1DM)
Engineering Vehicles (Up to "‘Road Railer’ Excavator")
Tramcars (To end)

Any loco marked with * has been previously available for TS, but is not at present. Any loco marked with ** is available as freeware, but could (perhaps) be in need of an update and/or a new model with more variants and liveries.

I hope there's something here for everyone, and if you have any comments, criticism or just suggestions for next time then please post them in this topic!

All the best, and enjoy voting!

Hi Shinymac,

That was quick! One question though - Have you ticked the boxes for those? I only ask as the only results so far are the ones I ticked as my entry!

Class 46 and Class 11 leading... on 4 votes apiece. Where are all the AC electric fans!? :D (Or, for that matter, the LU and NG fans... ). The LNER Y11 Petrol Electric is doing MUCH better than I thought it would! I thought it'd end up with no votes... I'm glad it's doing well because I like it a lot!

Doing this poll has been educational for me though, there's a lot on that list that I didn't even know existed, but having found them and added them, I then looked into their history and uses. I then voted for some of them simply because I liked them and I thought they'd be good in TS!

All the best,

I voted for the BOTH CL15,CL23 (babydeltic)and CL 46, the CL15 and 23,as they could be seen on the Cambridge and ECML,and the 46 one Weardale a Riviera Routes,Electric I chose the 81 as they were the longest serving of the first 5 classes and 85 as they were mostly used between Crewe and Glasgow

Nice! I'm just suprised that, as of yet, less people have done this poll as had done the steam poll within a similar time after publishing.

Maybe DTG are wrong... maybe steam is more popular!

Or maybe not... :(

I think it is DTG's experience that modern routes, current period, prove more popular, not the types of diesels and electrics in your survey. I would argue that DTG has supported the steam period than the classic diesel period, certainly route wise.

Fair point...

Class 46 seems to be leading, with 7 votes.

Sem

Please note that the original D600 Class Warships (nominally Class 41 but never designated as such whilst in existence) did not have a CO-CO wheel arrangement, as stated above - they were A1A-A1A.

Would love to see more AC electrics, would be nice if DTG would do an AC electric pack 81-85, I voted for them and also class 46 and 59/1, no mention of the 59/0 on the poll though

The Kitson-Still?!? You've been spending too much time reading the Museum of Retro Technology!
http://www.douglas-self.com/MUSEUM/LOCO ... tsonst.htm
http://www.douglas-self.com/MUSEUM/museum.htm
And as the post above, I believe that's 1-C-1, not a 1-Co-1. :P

Where are we with a new Deltic? The Kuju one's pretty awful, although there is an AP pack (I presume) and deltic009's work on them. If the 47 and HST warrant new versions (and of course there's Railright's new 37) then the Deltic definitely does...

That's a point... forgot about the 55!

As for the Kitson-Still, I couldn't resist! I needed a kettle in there somewhere, even if it is a diesel kettle!

The Swiss had electric kettles during WWII...

What do you intend to do with this list of locos when complete?

It's not like the model railway world where manufactures wish to know this info.
It comes down to Licensing where a model can only be sold if it does not break copyright - like AP with Virgin Logos - and BNSF outside the USofA

Vulcan Productions have just bought out new class 55 Deltic Pack, mind you it's only the 10 preserved ones, and costs £10.99,you also need the AP class 55 pack as well.
You get both Blue and Green ones,so you can use the Green ones on steam era routes.

Re: Wishlist Poll: Diesel, Electric & Other Locomotives

Post by sem34090 »

Peter, I intially started this because I was curious to see whether the idea would prove popular. It certainly generated some discussion, even if it hasn't proven to be especially popular. I've said before that I decided to have a stab at a 'proper' (certainly better...) poll as a bit of fun, and I have thoroughly enjoyed putting these polls together! I've learnt quite a lot too, especially with regards diesel & electric locomotives. I don't expect many, to be honest I don't expect any, developers to take this seriously, but as was said by someone else when this was brought up previously, there can't be any harm in doing this! If some developer were to look at this and perhaps decide to make public a personal project or to go ahead with something they had previously sidelined in the thinking it was too niche or unpopular, then I would be truly honoured! To be honest, It'd be highly unlikely, and as I said I doubt anyone will take all that much notice.

I haven't put a time limit on the polls: I think there will come a time when they just naturally finish as people stop voting. That will probably be in a few days or weeks time, but who knows?! Maybe it may prove popular and take off as more people hear about it, but I doubt it myself. We'll see! It may just wither and die over the next week or so. I'll try and get the multiple units done though, as they seemed to be quite popular in the 'trial' poll.
