I'd quite like to see a Class 323 but I think I'm in a minority of one here

I'm back again...

749006: I intially did that as a way of trying to remain as un-biased as possible! I appreciate that it's not ideal, and this is the reason I'm currently re-writing the poll and asking for feedback as I go.

Marcus: I thought there was something missing from the LNER Category... and the GCR is a rather large gap to be missing! Looking back over the draft I will re-write several large sections, especially if you can make any suggestions for substitutions! I need to reduce the number of Obscure Welsh Locos, though I think the TVR ones will be staying as they are preserved and some popularity can be gained from that. I wanted to avoid a long list of Panniers, but looking more closely there are plenty of gaps to be filled. I will be making significant changes to the LMS section, removing the GSWR from the picture as very few of the ex-GSWR designs inherited lasted all that long under the LMS. I will leave the HR 'Jones Goods' in there, as it is quite a popular loco, but a lot of re-organisation will be happening. I think I will reduce the SR Category somewhat, and I may eliminate items already available as freeware: there must be some demand for those and this can be gained by looking at the download counts!

With regards lifespan, numbers built, etc, outside of the Southern and to some degree the Western I'm pretty ignorant, but I have tried to include a mix of popular classes as well as the numerous ones. I will go back and get rid of a few of the more obscure, and not all that popular, designs. I was also thinking, especially with the Scottish and Welsh companies, of those which are poorly represented at the moment, but I think now that is a flawed strategy. I think reducing variants (i.e. have the Unrebuilt and Rebuilt Merchant Navies under one listing) could help to increase space. Need more Midland and LNWR locos, that's something I realised almost as soon as I saved the draft!

Pete, SkylineBoy & the204: I'll bear the 323 in mind for the multiple unit poll revision!

I'll try and redraft the steam poll tonight, and then make a start on the Diesel & Electric Poll.

Following Marcus' suggestions, I've redrafter the steam poll. The entries have worked out as follows:

BR Standard, WD & Experimental - 11 Entries
6x BR Standard
3x Ex-WD
2x Experimental

SR & Constituents - 14 Entries
4x SR Group Standard
3x ex-SECR
3x ex-LBSCR
4x ex-SECR

GWR & Constituents - 16 Entries
7x GWR Post-Grouping
7x GWR Pre-Grouping
1x ex-TVR
1x ex-RR

LMS & Constituents - 29 Entries
12x LMS Group Standard
4x ex-Midland Rly
2x ex-L&YR
5x ex-LNWR
1x ex-HR
2x ex-Caledonian Rly
1x ex-LTSR

LNER & Constituents - 28 Entries
11x LNER Group Standard
2x ex-GNR
4x ex-GCR
3x ex-GER
4x ex-NER
3x ex-NBR

Industrial/Other - 4 Entries
2x Industrial
2x ex-Metropolitan Rly

I still don't think it's perfect, but it could be seen as more representative. Personally I think there is a bit too much imbalance between the LNER Constituents (Not enough GNR compared with the others?) and possibly too many 'Group Standard' designs. Although small, I think the Southern perhaps is more popular, but that's probably personal bias creeping in!!!

I have attached the revised draft, should anyone wish to look over it and offer any criticism that they feel is there.

All the best,

Hi Marcus,

Saw this after reading your PM... I will adapt the new list a bit to include some of your suggestions, especially with regard the LNER and LMS sections.

All the best,

Do you think this poll, or your route poll, will influence any of the builders?

All the best,

Hi Peter,

I doubt it! I just thought it'd be interesting to see whether such a poll would generate any interest on the forum, and maybe, just maybe, lead to someone taking notice and making one of the items listed! It seems to have generated some interest, and a fair amount of just criticism, so I've decided to reorganise it into something that makes a bit more sense. Whether it ever results in anything being produced, who knows? As I said, I doubt it, but perhaps somebody will use it as an indicator. Either way, it's actually been quite fun to make, and has lead to me researching some rather interesting locos, some with rather complex histories and various re-classifications :o .

I know some may be doubtful that a poll will lead to some new trains being made but it's not going to hurt.

You never know, someone might be thinking of building one of the above and this has made them believe there would be a market for it.

Rather predictable but I agree with the lack of slamdoor AC EMUs, especially when you consider that many migrated North their appeal would not just be limited to fans of the Network South East area. I've not found a 317 that I'm happy with yet either. Considering they've run on GEML, ECML South and the Bed-Pan lines, they'd be of use.

The revised Steam Loco poll is now up here: http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=148854

Rather pleased with it, and it's been good fun to do. It really doesn't bother me whether anyone takes note, as Grate Eastern said, it really can't hurt!

AC EMU's will be featuring quite heavily in the Multiple Unit poll, although my own tastes are more DC based!

Hi
Just a thought with your route poll, once you have collected after a few weeks, you could put them onto the Facebook TS Recreating lost routes page.
I have a feeling these days that might be the best place for routes, looking at SSS except for the Wycombe and Southampton - Weymouth Routes they seem to be interested in Heritage Routes.
The other route maker is DP Simulations, they have just released a updated Glorious Devon 1958,which has now added the Southern Route to Oakhampton, which could with some more Southern Locomotives H15,700,N,E1 0-6-2T,some were allocated to 72A Exmouth Junction, also BR Riddles Std 3 2-6-2T some were allocated to both Southern and Western Regions.
Part of the route runs parallel with the Barnstaple Route, but don't know how far it actually goes after the Oakhampton route branches off.

Hi Mike,

Interesting ideas there. I won't be posting anything on Facebook, as discussed (at great length) elsewhere, I choose not to partake in Facebook, or any other social media. Might be worth suggesting them to someone though. That said, if they are interested they could perhaps look throught themselves and see what takes their fancy! The route requests topic will not turn into a poll, certainly not anytime soon, as there are too many routes out there! Once some clear favourites emerge, then I may do a poll.

I managed to get a few of those locos into the revised poll... if I had my way it'd all be Southern, or narrow gauge, but that's my bias, and the poll is supposed to be non-biased. Hence why the Southern is fairly small, as it was in reality!

All the best,

sem34090

Mike, DPS have nothing to do with the Devon route other than hosting it on the site.

Right, I've now begun the draft for the Diesel, Electric & Other Traction Poll, though there's a lot of space left! I've found pretty well everything I can, so if you have any other locos to suggest and include then please tell me now, so I can include them. As I say, there's plenty of space left, so fire away! Much of the list below was compiled from Google, as I know very little about D&E outside of the Southern! Indeed, if there's anything you think should definitely NOT be included in the poll, please say.

After this, it's Multiple Units, then Coaches & Wagons.

Here's the list so far:
