Bit of an issue

Post by TElsmore »

Hi all.

Today, something bizzare has happened to my install. Check out the screen shot below.

Image

I don't know why this has suddenly happened, or how to solve it! I was running full-screen! i can just select the menu icons that are visible, but that is it. I really dont want to go down the cache verification route, but i fear that i may have to. Please, does anybody have any idea how i can get things back to normal. Has anybody else experienced this?

Cheers
Terrone.

In the Settings Box on the Main Screen is the Option to run in Windowed, Borderless or Full Screen
Could something have changed there?

He can't get at the settings tab Peter, so onbiously he can't check.

Terrone, cut the ..\Contents\PlayerProfiles.bin file out of the game and paste it somewhere safe; when you next load TS it should create a new one using default settings which should then allow you to access the settings.

Just a long shot but Alt-Enter is a fullscreen shortcut.

If those suggestions don't work you could try:

Exit TS 2018 and STEAM
navigate to the Railworks\Content folder and delete or rename "playerprofiles.bin" file
Restart Steam and TS2018, this will reset your "Settings" to default.

EDIT: Beat me to it again Gary. LOL

What happens if you load Steam, but instead of starting the game from there, double click on RailWorks.exe?

It was the same result Gary.

However, i decided to move the Railworks.exe to my desktop and try and start the sim via Steam, which gave me an error message saying that the executable was missing (obviously). Steam then proceeded to download a new .exe, which appears to have done the trick, all is back to normal and nothing seems to have reset to default, which is a bonus because i have a lot of AP sound packs and such installed! So it looks like something had gone awry in my Railworks.exe, but the reasons as to why are beyond me as it was out of nothing, and i think that for my own sanity i'm not going to try and find out why! I'm going to put it down to the mysterious ways of TS! I'm cautiously optomistic!

Glad to hear that you have things back to normal. With regard to your above comment, removing and allowing STEAM to re-install the PlayerProfiles.bin will only alter the values that you would have previously set in the "Settings" Tab (displayed on the 'Start' screen) back to 'Default', it will NOT change anything in your Assets and Content folders, so your AP sound packs, re-skins, scenarios, etc. will be unaffected.

but it wasn't PlayerProfiles.bin that was reinstalled by Steam (and it isn't anyway, as it's produced on a per installation/change basis) but
