With DT bringing out the Adams Radial before too long, I was wondering if there was a slim possibility of members of the 415 class visiting Hayling during their earlier years? Just wondering...

Any more route news?

In real life the limiting factor was the weight restriction on the bridge, which according to messrs Mitchell and Smith in their excellen book 'Branch Line to Hayling' , could carry nothing heavier than the Terrier class of 28tons 5cwt. Early (1870's and 80's) days show small 0-4-0T and 2-4-0T until the Terriers.
In-game of course you can use what you wish ;-)
Hope it's all progressing well!

Its true, real life does frequently interfere, but progress on the line has continued, the Havant station area is now basically complete. I have modelled the station buildings and the signal box using re-skinned freeware assets removing the Portsmouth Direct Line from the requirements list. There are a lot of 'place holder' buildings at present, the main line signalling currently is very basic using semaphores - I am waiting for delivery of a signalling diagram. The stations on the line need more 'clutter' - posters, seats, luggage trolleys etc. The yards need populating with wagons, loads and general 'junk'. Oh and of course it needs people - all the platforms are non-people types at the moment - I haven't learned how to control their erratic behaviour yet, I may go for static 'vignettes' instead. Non-people platforms are good for the halts as long as scenario writers use 'Stop at' and not 'pick up passenger' when calling there!
It all Looks very nice..

Hi Kernow2
I haven't gotten into the dark art of scenario writing - yet. But to pick up on your point - for scenario creation, would it better to make the main platforms at Hayling Island and Havant populated types leaving the halts as non-populated?
All advice gratefully received

Looking fantastic!

I see... I'll stick to the terriers for now then!

With regards platforms...

I usually do the following:

[Moderator Comment: dorlan - Post edited as images exceed forum size guidelines]

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0
Find/Choose your platform! This one is a representation of the old halt to the North of Sheffield Park on the Bluebell.

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0
Select your piece of track.

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0
Use the offset tool, I used a value of '3.0', then select your invisible platform of choice. Because this is now a disused halt, I chose an empty one of the right size to fit the width of the platform, 1.5m. I suggest using the largest one possible for your platform, be it 1.5m, 5m, 7.5m or 9m.

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0
Click on the yellow arrow, having selected your invisible platform, and it will be laid at ground level.

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0
Raise it up to platform level.

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0
Lay a platform marker (found under the 'signals' section) and name it appropiately.

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0
Now, to control the crowds! This isn't really required for my halt here, but it's useful to show. You must select the invisible platform (I had to lower the platform temporarily to do this) then, in the menu thing on the right, click 'Generate'. That will create these blue markers. You can then drag the markers around to avoid, for example, a lamp post, so that people don't walk through it. People should (should being the operative!) avoid any area outside of the pink line that links the blue posts. You should avoid laying any form of invisible platform on the station ramps... people will just walk straight from the bottom of one ramp to the bottom of the other, with only their heads visible as they walk through the platform!

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ ... de%7C*%3A0
Finally, check it works! The doors should open, so I know this has worked. I did replace the signal in between this and the last shot...

I hope that was of use!

All the best,

sem34090

Ah I see, so the platform area for auto generated passengers is set up in a similar manner to irregular blocks for assets. I see there are also 'point of interest' and platform 'entry/exit' controls available too. I will have a 'play' - it'll be fun trying out some ideas for people walking along paths etc using the invisible platform lofts. By the way, does anyone know the best source route etc for 1950's people?

Yes... I have yet to use the 'POI', Entrance/Exit,etc. However, I would imagine it's best to place an entrance/exit where those are on the platform, as I think they cause passengers to walk towards them upon 'exiting' the train/platform.

I like the footpath idea...

A friend of mine upon seeing the screenshots has asked how long until release... soo... How long until release?

I'm just trying to work out what stock is most appropiate to the Hayling line, particularly during the 1930's, but also towards the end. Out of what's currently available for TS, I came up with the following:

Locos:
Pre-1923: LBSCR Class A1
1923-1948: SR (ex-LBSCR) Class A1x
1948-1960's BR(S), (ex-SR) Class A1x
All from Victory Works. :D

Coaches:
1880 - 1905(ish): Stroudley 4w Coaches, included with the VW Terriers.
1905 - 1945(ish): Cascaded LBSCR Bogie Stock. SECR Birdcages could possibly deputise.
1945 - 1955(ish): Cascaded Mainline stock? Could include Birdcages and Maunsells?
1955(ish) - 1960's: Maunsells, BR MK1 Suburbans, Bulleids?

I won't even bother trying to list suitable wagons...

Anyone else know of any other suitable stock?

All the best, and a very Merry Christmas,

I am doubtful about 'Birdcage' sets being used (most of the year traffic would hardly warrant a 3-coach set), but 50s photographs and videos indeed show various Maunsells (often an ex-driving trailer modified BCK), Mk1 non-corridors and a Bulleid BCK in use. Standard formation seems to have been brake compo + third, when required in summer strenghtened with another third.

In the fifties an ex-LSWR Brake Compo was seen, and a few of the ex-LSWR 58' NC coaches rebuilt by Maunsell from ex-LSWR 48' coaches were also used 1957-1959 (Lav Third, Lav Compo, Lav Brake Third).

Now these rebuilds would be very useful models, not just for the Hayling Island branch! I know these are not available, but last July DT hinted on their Facebook page that they might do these rebuilds as a follow up to the LSWR 48' coaches that will come with the Radial.

I did doubt the use of Birdcages, and at present they are really the only option for SR NC Stock, but I think the DT LSWR Stock could be a better subsitute (Or, indeed, and accurate representation!) for LBSCR Stock.

With regards the rebuilt coaches, much the opposite to what you described has happened with railway modelling! Hornby have produced the rebuilds, but not the originals! People are complaining that they haven't offered both, as it would be useful to have some stock for the lovely LSWR liveried Adams Radials currently available!

Apologies for the off-topic question coming up!

Not posting much at the moment as I'm trying to work out a way of proving I can post images of the right size! Having trouble finding places to put the photos so I can link them to the forum. Trying to use my website is a bit of a pain, as it intrudes on the main point of the website, and AtomIC Album only appears to be available to premium members. I am one of these occassionally, but not continuously, when there's certain things I need to download. I am currently unable to maintain full membership. Does anyone have any suggestions for sites I could use to host the images (for free) that would allow me to prove I can scale them as required? Trouble is I don't post all that many images because I struggle to host them. Steam uploads directly from the game, so I'm not sure how to rescale them between uploading them to steam and posting them here! Any suggestions?

Once again, my apologies, but I'm struggling to work out how to get around this...

All the best, and Merry Christmas to you all!

I now own all three birdcage packs, and thanks to a new PC I can look forward to running the Hayling Branch at 60fps!

Yet another question from me, but I'd like to ask what track has been used for this route? It looks fantastic in the screenshots, so I may have to use it myself in the future!

Hi Sem I used a re-skin of Mundo's LNWR 3D Track (UKTS 23146) - I wanted a brown ballast type. I am currently checking everything installs and works ok on a clean install of TS2018, I need to get a few permissions from asset authors but am close now to releasing the route.
