The linear motor was designed and a prototype demonstrated at Gorton works in the 50s. Now developed by the Japanese into the Maglev and derivatives.

We could go on!
Please don't "go on", it's too depressing ! :(
Although UKTS isn't the arena, going on would raise the question of how a UK detached from the EU is to support itself and survive under such circumstances.

I agree that UKTS is not the arena as the moderators may think that this is touching upon politics . :D

It is, but...
There is no problem with discussing political events or individuals, however these should be based on undisputed facts, rather than speculation or conjecture based on a members personal, party-political beliefs.
This topic is about the APT-P DLC!!! so please stick to the subject.

Much more on topic. An in-depth look at the APT-P, note the two drivers in the cab. It sounds (description of features etc) and looks fabulous.

https://train-simulator.com/apt-p-detail/

As an aside, regarding the trackside transponders for speed, depending how these work and if they're scenario specific, if we understand how they work might we be able to use them as a way of fudging limits for rolling stock below normal linespeed for use in scenarios I wonder??

Deffo my favourite shot, cracking detail in there.

Self-leveling pantograph system when the train is tilting.

The quality of that work. My word, this is an immediate purchase.

We're getting some very high quality DLC for TS now, makes a mockery of those who think TS is dead. The interior is as good as the HST on TSW at first glance.

Never thought highly of the APT but this TS recreation certainly makes it look very sleek.

Could it ever run again???

Pragmatism says not, but the prototype HST has been revived and extinct steam classes reincarnated.
Of course, it's money and will power that makes the difference - just look at what happens in the world of rare warbirds...

But, from an engineering perspective, how dead is a dead APT???

looks good dont it - their grandchildren eventually got to hit the british steelwork thanks to FIAT...

The APT-P - pre production fleet were built to iron the issues found in APT-E, once these had been eradicated - APT-S(quadron) or service fleet would have been introduced with all the refinements, bugs etc that the P sets had encountered.

Lots of background work was done ready - Willesden had the APT stabling roads ready for them, lots of infrastructure was modified to cater for them...to make APT work she also needed a top quality road to operate on...that was also being sorted..curves eased, with extra work planned, eventually done anyway - such as Weedon on the old lines etc

Worst part of the Project is the team at the RTC were there, ..maybe one more year event less of testing and passenger running to clear the snags and the Squadron sets Would have been built.

what we see in the P-sets is what the passengers were going to get ...eventually..

as said in previous messages - APT-S Squadron sets were built and renamed inter city 225 the electras - essentially non tilt APT, lets face it when the electras open up you feel the power wherever you are sitting..but ALL railwaymen and women from the 80s know the score

I think Ive just fainted with excitement, a must, must, must for me too.

BTW I know the Pendo's are a sort of derivitive of the APT but the windows of the Pendo's are awfully small, I suppose it's because of the body construction. Not nice at all.

Partly because of those awful metal plate seats?

Kind regards,

if the vehicles are safe and crashworthy - i dont care...

also 2 traincrew at front were required over 110mph...normally driver and 2ndman...union requirement at time

happily the industry moved forward....slowly
