I'd laugh but it sounds awful....more like an old witch's cackle.......perhaps AP could do a laugh enhancement pack for me?

I've reached the age where I need a physics patch and a reskin...

The next step would be a removal from the catalogue.....

Maybe we could sell your rights to AP for an overhaul?

"Fallen stallion", huh?
I remember seeing one on a curve near Carnforth, as the train I was on inched past. It had (ahem) 'fallen' off the rails, southbound from Glasgow.
Could have been a great train but the powers-that-be made the engineers rush the job for political reasons.
Couldn't happen nowadays...
Kind regards,
John M

I think it was more a case of the funding was withdrawn once the vast majority of faults on the train were pretty much rectified, the government at the time not exactly being pro rail...
If anyone can get a copy of a book entitled 'APT - A promise unfulfilled' by Hugh Williams, its an excellent read by one of the engineers who worked on the project from the start.
I travelled on the train several times and although it was a long time ago now, the sounds were more or less the same as a class 91, a lot of the APT power car technology went into the class 91.

This Virgin link-up and the appearance of the APT makes me think that there may be another WCML route in the offing. Euston - Birmingham hopefully.
Euston to Birmingham .. UKTS 36021 ? ....

........ What we really need is Stafford to Preston.....

As impressive as that route is, some people will just want to buy a Euston to Birmingham route on Steam, not one that has so many requirements.

I agree that some people would want that, but with a fairly complex route length of 112 miles 73 chains, I think that it is unlikely that there will ever be a single route covering this on Steam .
But you never know !

For once I don't see the sounds as being that critical.
Some of the sounds like Horn, AWS, Door opening and closing DTG will have recorded from the APT-P at Crewe Heritage centre.
The train there has Driving coaches, open second, buffet car and Brake First so the interiors are easy to copy - measure etc.
In the drivers cab you will be 6 coaches away from a power car so it will be more like driving a DVT.
I think the normal sound of the Class 91 blowers would be too loud for the APT-P
And the train sound is slightly different with the articulated coaches - like the TGV

I'm not sure on the mileage but Preston to Stafford or Rugby to Euston would nicely fill in sections of the WCML.

Rugby seems an odd place to stop, I know it is a junction but a lot of trains don't stop there. I would love to see Euston to Birmingham or even better to Wolverhampton.

Preston to Stafford is about 75 miles and that could just be a Steam length route. However it would be scenery/track intensive around Stafford, Crewe, Warrington, Wigan and Preston. We already have Preston ( WCMLoS), Stafford (WCMLTV),and Crewe ( NWC), so if if a third party builder
could link them to the same start point, we would have the basis of the route.
With Preston to Stafford, WCMLoS, WCMLN, WCML London Midland (by photons66 and associates) and WCML Trent Valley, we would then have the full West Coast Main Line of 402 miles from Euston to Glasgow Central .
Rugby to Euston is 82 miles 40 chains, but of course this is already covered in WCML London Midland. Rugby to Stafford is approx 57 miles and of course is already in WCML Trent Valley.
We already have the full East Coast ML if you count the Creative rail route and most of it north of Edinburgh if you count the "Aberdeen Angus" routes, so
Preston to Stafford would complete the picture on the West Coast.. A big ask, but please someone ?..

Perhaps I should clarify, I would like a Rugby to Euston to the same standard and with all inclusive assets for use alongside the WCML-TV route. Whilst I acknowledge the work done on London to Birmingham it requires an enormous amount of assets in order to run, and the trackers in places is a little lacking, I'd be more willing to invest in a payware route that neatly contains all it requires in the one package assets wise. Crewe already has the intense trackwork laid out in NWC so it is achievable. The route could be joined if the origin was shared as the same point in Crewe as NWC (if it is possible).
