A great piece of DLC indeed.

Just a question: what is the difference between the 14+2-cars "high power set" and the 16-cars "stretched" one?

This thread touches upon the subject, https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/ap ... ons.72478/, and includes this....

So the production trainsets would have had only one powercar, placed at the front, and not two powercars placed in the middle, like the prototype(s) did?
I'm not fat - I'm easy to see

So, there isn't a correct consist for a revenue service set included in the DLC; they jump from 10 to 14+2 or 16 cars!
Guess I have to do one by myself

The 10 car version with the power car at one end was never produced but the concept went in to the Class 91.
The Proposed APT formation would have been 2+12 but was only formed like that on a few occasions.

When testing they had a full half set DTSO-TSO-TRS-RU-FO-BFO-PC and a special set of PC-BFO-TRS-DTSO giving 11 vehicles

or 10 if the TRS was missing

I agree the panto action is great, it could only be improved by the addition of a SPARK !
Looks like I was wrong ! Just played the Northbound scenario set in the rain and poor visibility. Low and behold there is a a panto spark ! I felt sure that 25 kv and the wet dirty conductors north of Preston should produce one. This is a highly scripted model, so perhaps its one of those that only shows a spark in wet or winter conditions ?

Anyhow, well done DTG and partners .

When returning to a saved scenario, the panto ran in the lowered position and could not be raised , again probably a feature of the high level of scripting ?

That's been noted with other, simpler, locos and EMUs so is more a *failing* of the game's 'save and resume' feature rather than any stock item.

Just out of interest I cloned a copy of the career scenario "The Clansman" which was included with the Class 86 pack for WCMLN. I then substituted the APT 2+14 consist for the original driven Blue 86 and coaches. Of course there is a passenger view with this 2+14 consist !

This gives an interesting APT run from Carlisle to Glasgow set in the mid 1980s. Very enjoyable, but of course no functioning C-APT.

The only problem is, if run as a career scenario, it hammers your score on poor ride quality every time the APT tilts !

Ignoring that very minor detail, this simple exercise, demonstrates that there is lots of scope for quickly producing suitable correct period WCML APT scenarios from what we already have. :)

The only photo I managed of one in service - taken at Stafford on 10th May 1985. Really can't believe this was thirty two years ago. It still looks good today. A train way ahead of its time and another sad case of getting 95% there and then throwing it all away. No doubt the experts can work out the formation of this one - eleven vehicles in the consist.

A really nice train to drive in TS - the tilt is very well done. The passenger view is only available in the TRBS - page four in the manual.

Having just bought the APT and at full price, I am going to do a first now and give DTG some praise, having just taken it out for a spin in quick drive mode, I am really impressed not only does it look good and has great functionality, but also sounds good too, also modelled is the neutral sections, although I don't remember reading in the description. Job well done DTG.

I've just re-watched the Peter Purvis APT video, which covers a Glasgow to Euston Passenger carrying journey. The ariel shots of the train are most likely from another journey, but seem to show the consist as a 2+12 set. Was this 14 car set the consist used when in limited passenger service ?

When the 11 vehicle consist like in x5pgr's photo was used, was the long (6 passenger cars) part of the train normally at the Glasgow or the Euston end ? Any ideas ?

The longer section of the train was usually at the Glasgow end of the train and the picture above by another Peter (x5pgr) shows the train northbound thru Stafford with the 6 part leading.

Does anyone know what the timing were for the APT, I think it left Euston at 16:15 and around 07:00/15 from Glasgow, does anybody know or remember the times at Preston, Carlisle and Glasgow.

Sadly of course it never did enter service in 1980, and when it did a year later it was just the 1S86 1630 from Euston and 1M25 0700 from Glasgow Central. It was then withdrawn and reinstated later as a non advertised express with timings that varied each year.

By 1984/5 it was running as 1M25 0802 Glasgow Central to Euston with a pick-up at Motherwell 0815/0816 and non-stop passing Carlisle at 0914 (with bags of recoverytime). The down working was still the 1S86 1630 Euston to Glasgow Central passing Carlisle non-stop at 2003, calling Motherwell to set down at 2054½/2055½ and reaching Glasgow at 2112
