Is anyone else getting that? Any thoughts as to what could be causing that, please? One thought is that I have the old SSS route sounds packs that were designed to help fix this but which were withdrawn nearly a couple of years ago. Is it possible that they are causing it?
I seem to remember a sound update pack from SSS which caused that, however the tunnel sounds on the NWC in my case are just right not too loud unless you are driving the voyager or unenhanced 175, I find that DtG models suffer from inadequate cab occlusion unlike AP's proddies. IME.

Thanks Martin. Does anyone know whether it's safe to uninstall these in the package manager in Utilities? If it is these SSS packages, then it's interesting that new routes are referencing those sounds.

I know that when I had the pack installed it badly affected the Peterborough York route from creative and the freeware wcmlsouth route!

If, and only if, the SSS package alters Kuju/RSC/DTG sounds that are referenced by any other route then of course new routes would pick that up---that's why the AP enhancement is working on more than the routes that are detailed on the product page/in the manual.

Martin (or anybody else). do you still have the installer for the SSS pack available?---you'd be able to list just which sounds were affected then, which saves a lot of guessing/conjecture/speculation/grasping at straws.

Gary, I have them (I'm a squirrel with installers). There's a bunch of rwps. What am I looking for in them, please?

Apologies for the dummy question ... but should I get a 'TS2018 update' downloaded automatically? The settings page still shows 59.2a (as it has for a while) and my railworks.exe is feb 2017 so it doesn't look like I've been updated. I have auto-update switched on and I have always had these in the past.

I'm not bothered TBH as the system is running well anyway - just would like to know if I'm missing anything! (and if I'm suddenly going to be faced with a change that I wasn't expecting..)

Cheers
Neil

Yes, it should be an automatic upgrade as soon as you go online.

Thanks Gary - does the upgrade give any clue - is the exe changed or just parts of the login-screen?

Yes, I know a 390 is available but not officially in any of the the liveries it's supposed to be in, it could certainly do with some TLC to make it look more authentic inside and out.

There would not really be a business case for a deal between DTG and VT to brand just one or two items and their press release said the Voyager was the first release from the new partnership.
The 1st Gen pack is coming with a 47 and HST in VT livery, it's likely we'll then see an electric pack with 86 & 87, it would be frankly bizarre if they don't recreate VT's most iconic unit, the 390.

In response to another comment, there's no indication that the agreement doesn't include the VTEC, so there's lots of scope.

I just hope WCML south is in the pipeline, I try to keep third party routes to a minimum on my PC as the additional DLC required takes up a lot of space. Stafford to Liverpool/Manchester would also be good and quite likely now I would think as it's just filling in the gaps.

I went ahead and got 2018 even though I had 1 of the 3 routes.
But I must say, it seems that there has been a few tweeks, as before I had some minor stuttering, but with 2018, the same routes run perfectly.

It may be my imagination, but also the scenery seems to be better rendered as well. Clouds move well, and floral depiction is better than when in 2017 IMHO.

I've no definite idea....

I can possibly point you in the right direction though; look for any Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailNetwork\TrackBedRumble folders in the .rwp's and if there are any compare the contents with a default copy of the game's folder---Not got adefault copy?....post a screen shot of the contents of that folder rom the .rwp and we'll check on our systems to see if any may be altering default files.

I can't see NWC referencing other routes, so it's more likely to be a case of a 'system wide' effect having been changed---that is if we're not barking up the wrong tree.

Gary, the default route rwp amends these files:

There are similar versions for BrightonMainLine, FalmouthBranch, GEML, KentHighSpeed, MichaelWhitely\Austerity, SettleCarlisle, Port Road and Woodhead. It does look like the bin files in the default folder have been updated by the AP enhancement pack, though, as they have a date of 12/11/17.

So, the plot thickens. The ear-splitting only happens with the 221. Both the 158 and 175 are as I would expect them to sound the with AP enhancement pack.

Does that help at all?

Yeah, DtG don't know how to do decent cab occlusion, I get this deafening tunnel sounds that put my neighbours into cardiac arrest on the London to new street freeware route if I'm in a unenhanced DtG loco/EMU etc but if in an AP enhanced.... As it should be, no ambulance calls for the neighbours.
