I appreciate the sentiment but at least they are on or off as you approach. Some signals in TS don't clear until you're on top of them, which is much worse.

That's not normal, except perhaps on third-party routes developed by people that don't know how to use the available signals correctly. The only circumstance I can think of is where distant signals are positioned rediculously close to the next stop signal. I haven't noticed that on proper RSC/DG routes.

The above is with Kuju scripted signalling, out of interest what scripts are used on the signals on the North Wales route? Not more bodged colour-light scripts I hope.

The Sim was updated this morning and I started to get the "Dump File" error when I exited one of my own built test routes but as I have been "fiddling" with new asset files, I put it down to that.
However after paying for the TS2018 package to get the Wales Coast route and successfully starting to run the first scenario, I got 10 mins into it when it too suddenly crashed withe "Dump File" message.

Anyone else getting these since the update??

Steve
Funnily enough, that happened to me as well, TS threw its toys out of the pram as I approached the end of the wires. I have now downloaded the route stability enhancement pack, which seems to have done the trick so far.

NWC uses the sounds from the South Wales route, so any reduction in RAM usage attributed to the enhancement pack would be duplicated in NWC.
Or, to try and narrow things down to find the root cause of an issue, you could just lower your Scenery Quality slider in the graphical options a notch at a time to see if there's a setting that improves stability whilst retaining a decent looking image.

The approach to Crewe isn't, not on my system at least, particularly memory hungry (under 2GB, using the 158 scenario) so any reduction in settings or enhancement pack installation shouldn't be needed. Try them by all means, but I suspect the reason for the crashes some have had is hidden a bit deeper.

Tricky one this. I'm generally not interested in anything modern or non-UK, but the North Wales and German routes both look interesting despite that. Somewhat tempted.

On the subject of semaphore signals, single track routes with them are a bit alarming when the oncoming signals are cleared.

I have found that TS2018 is more demanding of frame rates, as I have noticed a 30-40% drop in frame rates compared to TS2017, although i did manage to run TS2018 with all setting maxed out with an AP scenario between Liverpool St and Shenfield without any problems, that is with the enhancement pack, this setting would have caused the dump crash before installing the enhancement.

Many are reporting better performance, personally I see nothing different. but there are very few seeing a degradation so a little testing might be in order?

Many find GEML quite demanding, and whilst the AP sound enhancement may swing the balance when running that route it can't be taken as the 'this will cure everything' fix it's now becoming lauded as. If the approach to Crewe uses less than 2GB of RAM on my machine, with my settings (3x3 SSAA, all sliders at max) , it's quite likely that others will find it equally as 'slim' resource wise. If the game is crashing with a 2GB memory utilisation the crash isn't being caused by a lack of memory, unless of course the installation is 'crippled' that much that it can't properly utilise what it should be able to.

Dunno what I was looking at, but it doesn't....probably read NorthWalesCoastal and "saw" SouthWalesCoastal...

I am getting better rendering of graphics with TS2018, distant objects are clearer, and objects are coming into view smother now, wonder if this is why the fps have dropped, so yes better performance, but still need to test more if the slower fps affects crashes, although with a GTX970 I can afford to lose fps for better performance and with the AP enhancement pack hoping to reduce dump files.

Nothing in TS2018 to tickle my taste buds. I was a child of the steam era and found it difficult to embrace diesel/electrics - I really did try. I can recall crabs at the bottom of the playground! My TS interests are also catholic with the admittance of green period diesels just for atmosphere and to test track. Fortunately we are blessed with some exceptional steam routes that are free and a few that are not.

I am prompted to make a rare appearance on the forums to note that there is an odd connection between the free steam routes and the commercial contemporary routes that sometimes gets overlooked. Namely, most of the former generally require some of the latter to run. Whilst I limit my playing time to steam routes and frequently, but not always, free routes I have actually spent a lot of my pocket money on routes that I rarely, if ever drive. Examples include Portsmouth Direct Line, West Coast Mainline North, West Highland Line(s), ECML London - Peterborough, Doncaster Works, Liverpool-Manchester, Settle to Carlisle, Isle of Wight, Riviera Line, and an American Route simply to get some vital tressle bridges.

So whilst the North Wales route holds no interest now it may be a necessity should it be used as the basis for a steam route, I hope.

What frame rates are you getting?

The AP pack is only of use if the route/scenario hits whatever RAM/VAS barrier it's uncomfortable with; if you need to apply any such *fix* when the memory usage is relatively low (2GB in use by RailWorks.exe should not be a problem) you have a much deeper rooted issue. The 'dump file' is not the error, but a consequence of an error---it's a diagnostic aid (in theory) to pinpoint just what/where in the game causes the problem.

You can get a special ointment for that. !!
