DT just yesterday announced that their Axminster-Lyme Regis 20s-30s route would be extended to include the 27 miles of mainline between Axminster and Exeter Central. If they are considering appropriate main-line stock the LSWR-design ‘Ironclad’ coaches would be a nice choice. They lasted until the late fifties and some at least lived long enough to be photographed in SR green.sem34090 wrote:DT are going one step better/older and are offering LSWR 48ft Non-Corridors, or so I believe. Makes sense, as they lasted (only just... mostly as lengthened rebuilds which DT might be offering too) into BR days, but are appropriate for pretty well any livery the Adams wore/has worn (Apart from maybe EKR Green or Black or Blue, or whatever it was painted. Also maybe not Catterick/Longmoor (WD) Blue or Black with GWR safety valve bonnet... bit specialist that one!)
Ironclads would be nice too though. Personally I'd prefer a Southern push-pull set to be offered, preferably something nearer the Gate Stock end of the scale than the rather late (1959-ish?) Birdcage, Ironclad and Maunsell Rebuilds.
All the best,

The trouble with push-pull sets is that some customers will complain if they are not made operational, and that would require a lot of extra work and a suitably fitted engine. As far as I know only Victory Works’ 14xx is so equipped (which would hardly be appropriate….). Still, DT have the M7,and an ex-LSWR gate-set would be nice...
I think the 60’ SECR ‘Birdcage’ coaches were converted to push-pull from the late thirties and the last went around 1961. 5 ‘Ironclad’ sets (BTK-BCK) were converted between 1958-1952 and lasted until 1962. The converted Maunsell sets were latecomers, from 1959, and were all withdrawn by May 1964.
