Must be updated because of the TS2018 wording and also says exclusive to TS2018 meaning wont run on TS2017 which must mean an update, what is the update going to add, more to the point why add more to an old sim, when there is a new one, if you add more then will customers need TSW? Adding more also means more resources, or slows down systems or is the update going to be less demanding on computers, thats the problem with updates TS2015 maxed out my old PC.
I get the feeling you are just looking for something to complain about. Other titles change from year to year without major updates, it may just be simple marketing.

In my experience TS2017 seems to run better than the earlier versions so any changes might improve the way it runs on your system, however I suspect if anything changes it will be merely cosmetic as I suspect they have pushed the TS game engine as far as they can (I may be wrong)!

DTG have three options:

1) Ditch TS completely and just concentrate on TSW - some will complain
2) Forget TSW and go back to developing for TS - some will complain
3) Develop TSW and continue to make content for TS - some will complain

Basically they will never be able to win with a small minority of people.

I'm quite happy that DTG are bringing out a upgrade to TS2017,and calling it TS2018,and the fact that it will included the North Wales Coast,is it just me but I think it's a pity it's modern era,I would have preferred a 1955-65 era version, after all the steam locomotives and early diesels are available for the route,I hope it includes the Holyhead Llandudno Junction part of the route,as I think it's the more scenic part of the route.

I suspect the upgrade to TS2018 is simply a bit of title and UI change. I suspect we all be "upgraded" to TS2018. Bit only new purchasers of 2018 will get the North Wales route and there will be some option for existing TS2017 owners to gain the new route - as has happened before. I'm also expecting as maybe another route or two to emerge in the next few days. Oh no I've added to the speculation.

It amazes me that after some of us have been using TS for 10+ tlyears, there are still some expecting/lamenting most routes not coming in 60s/70s format requiring way more rolling stock variation, way more research to get things right and no proven pay off with the value of sales for Dovetail on return.

I must say I welcome new additions from DTG and any other Route builders,of which there are several in the pipeline.

I regret to say at the moment I am not greatly impressed with the new Train Simulator (TSW), it is probably just me,being old I don't like change!!!!!!!!!

We had exactly the same when Rail Simulator was first announced, many people were not impressed and vowed to stick with MSTS forever. Look where we are now.

It's just natural progression, at some point TSW will hopefully grow to a point where people find it more acceptable and we'll be wondering what all the fuss was about in a decade.

Me too, nice addition to my extensive TS collection, personally I like modern era so I'm never miffed about it as it reflects what we have today, suppose there are some out there who could revert it to "olden" times and that would be great too. :)

I'm looking forward to this route too, and like smarty2 above, I like modern image routes.
But I do like playing the older routes, but with a nice diesel or hydraulic instead of a leaking kettle (hehe).

Well it would be nice to have the odd route backdated like they did with Riviera in the 50's which seems pretty popular.

Especially as we already have a lot of varied suitable stock. And I would say that if there was no proven revenue we would not have the Deltic prototype, Western pack, Blue Diesel Pack, 101/105/121 packs, numerous kettles, WLOS, Riviera in the 50's, Weardale, Granfield, Woodhead etc etc.

As Nick mentioned earlier in the thread, he and I are looking at the possibility of regressing this to the BR Blue period and possibly extending it but, of course, we have not seen what DTG will publish yet and what assets they will provide with the route.

The big problem with getting to Holyhead is the Menai Straits crossing.......if they provide the small tubular bridge at Conway then we may be able to create a passable Britannia Bridge from that...if not, then without a custom asset we will be stuck - but there again there is the possibility of Bangor....many trains started and terminated there in the 70s and 80s. I will certainly buy the route on release day and will enjoy driving the modern version whatever happens......I can then figure out just how big a job it would be to regress what they publish, in theory should not be too bad.

The King Edward Bridge model (or one of the Newcastle bridges) from the Newcastle to York route is wide enough and tall enough for a single track line and an accompanying road inside the girder support section
I tried Menai once a long time ago using that bridge and from what I can remember it worked reasonably well, but that was long before I had any sort of reputable standard in route building and I deleted the route I had built shortly thereafter.

And the station building used for Vindells station on the LT Heritage route (formerly Phorum Peninsula) could initially substitute as a station building for Holyhead.
