This is excellent news :D

Though I note there's no mention of the full route to Holyhead being included only Llandudno and Conwy (at this time).

I'll be definitely running this set in the Regi rail 37 era .

A backdated version would be most welcome , Blue 40s , Holiday extra's , liners to Holyhead etc.

Crewe in itself is a welcome addition and certainly a great base from which to expand :D

So will they include an APT in the Heritage centre ?

There is no overlap between the two routes.

It has been said many times by the staff on the proper sites that they are two ( 2 ) totally different sims with totally different staff working on each. There has even been comments from members of this site that work for the company stating that they only work for DTG-20~~.
Best to look at it as to totally different games from different class rooms by different people and then you won't get confused. :P

Prepare to visit the seaside, as North Wales Coastal: Crewe – Llandudno & Conwy Castle is coming soon, exclusively for Train Simulator 2018! Watch out for more news on TS2018 and North Wales Coastal soon, including details on how our existing players will be able to take a journey along the North Welsh Coast!

Whatever, it's simply great news!

David - there are many members here and elsewhere who have invested huge amounts of time and money into TS20xx. DTG may be the publishers of both sims but that doesn't mean that they would concentrate on TSW to the exclusion of TS20xx, which has many years' of life left in it yet. They are two separate sims that should be seen as such. If you doubt that, just look at the numbers of people who still use MSTS, which Microsoft hasn't supported since 2004!

There isn't a direct connection between LiverpoolManchester and this route. They would have to create the Chat Moss route between the 2 cities, connect Earlestown to Warrington and on to Chester - about 3 times the length of the proposed route. However, Andy Freeman and I have all this in place (and about to be published), albeit in the BR Blue era. We already have plans to regress this new route to BR Blue (so there would be inter-route connection at Chester, and later also at Crewe. Long scenarios split into parts will be possible.

What is confussing is why are we getting TS2018, not about getting new dlc, yes people like myself have invested money and time in TS and would still welcome more dlc as I have no plans to move to TSW, what is confussing is why update the core engine, with TSW TS is now a discontinued model or should be as far as DTG are concerned, yes still make dlc but no further updated to the core game. Its like a car many years ago we had the MkIII Escort when the MK4 came out production of the MK3 stopped although part were still made.

I'm more 'confussed' over why you are getting so hot and bothered about it. And where does it say anything is being updated in the core?

... and why, David, are you assuming that TS2017 is a "discontinued model"? Certainly DTG have not said so.

Must be updated because of the TS2018 wording and also says exclusive to TS2018 meaning wont run on TS2017 which must mean an update, what is the update going to add, more to the point why add more to an old sim, when there is a new one, if you add more then will customers need TSW? Adding more also means more resources, or slows down systems or is the update going to be less demanding on computers, thats the problem with updates TS2015 maxed out my old PC.

Nonsense. Where do you get this rubbish from? Where is it stated that this route won't run on TS2017? I think your imagination is running away with you....

Why would it not be, if it continues to evolve then why would anyone want TSW? Just because TS the core game is `discontinued` if it is does not mean dlc wont be made for it, the same as MSTS Microsoft cut it loose not long after release but still has products made for it, I would expect dlc to continued to be made for TS for years to come, but would not expect yearly updates to TS, from DTG point of view there would be little point to it, if you add new features then people like me would never want to switch to TSW and all there investment would be wasted, they need to call time on it and hope we switch over and buy dlc that we already have for TS, but for TSW when it becomes available. Or maybe TSW is not taking off as uch as they had hoped and want to try and energise TS. Who knows.

Any new dlc for TSxx is alwas a bonus anyway, looking forward to North Wales Coast and any other routes that come along wether it be TS2017, TS2018 or beyond.

including details on how our existing players will be able to take a journey along the North Welsh Coast! ■ a somewhat vague statement,is it 2017 will not be a free update but to have this new route you can purchase this at a reduced price for existing customers who own 2017'.or you get the "normal update" but not the new route. 1/2 on the 1st iteration.

If I understand correctly, your issue is that you "don't" want a core update because you're worried about increasing hardware requirements?
If you look at the past couple of years, how much really has been added to the core TS20xx to max out the potential of the game engine? Very little as far as I can see, because it's already as far as it can go.
And DTG have said themselves that very little can be done now and if they want to make use of the latest game technologies, then it's TSW that gets most of the core development now.
TS2018 is just a name really, rather than signifying that you're getting loads more than the previous year's incarnation had.

And since the core update is (usually) free I wouldn't worry at all about any route/game backwards compatibility.

I suppose "watch this space" is all that can be said on that now.
