Is this an essential piece of DLC to be bought in its final hours of sale?

From Armstrong Powerhouse Facebook page, very nice!

“We are pleased to announce that we have successfully negotiated with Thomson Interactive & Oovee to purchase the rights to their Class 150/2 DMU.
The original package will be removed from sale very soon and over the coming weeks, we shall be working on a greatly enhanced version of the unit which shall be released as a full-scale rolling stock pack. A Class 150/2 fit for train simulation in 2017.
Stay tuned for more information.”

There are two DLC: 150/0-1 and 150/2. Will these be combined or is there no need as the 150/2 is indistinguishable from the lower series and prototype?

You sure they're indistinguishable?

Visibly, and most significantly, the 150/2 has corridor connections between units, while 150/1 does not. So very different appearance front and back, regardless of other differences.

They have completely different origins, and AP have already done a comprehensive enhancement pack for the 150/1. I imagine they will do something similar for the 150/2 but with a full refresh of the underlying model.

The 150/2 has a power operated door for the train crew whereas it is a slam door for the 150/1.

Try looking at both units and see if you can spot a difference

The existing/withdrawn 150/2 from Thomson/Oovee supplied via Steam was actually pretty good with a few nice features over a standard RSC/DTG type unit and most importantly lots and lots of re-paints exist for it.

AP will no doubt produce an improved version that will be well up to their usual high standards. Something to look forward to I think.
However, whilst many do, not everyone wants or requires a super "pro standard" version that requires a careful study of the manual before you can use it . Also, if this is a completely new version, it will no doubt break the large number of existing scenarios for the T/O 150/2, which does seem a shame.

I'd suggest the first part of your sentence contradicts the rest of this quote. If it is completely new, why would they publish it as an overwrite to the Thomson/Oovee version and not within their own AP Provider and Product folders thus leaving the Status Quo? It would also be unadvisable because any unticking of the Thomson/Oovee and re-ticking would completely remove the new version. I think you're looking for an issue that simply won't exist.

Neither would it break existing scenarios if it installed into it's own folder tree. Even if it still exists in the Thomson\Oovee folder AP wouldn't make it overwrite the old version---doing so lays the new open to removal by Steam following a verifiction routine, whether that invoked by the user or not.

I agree, I should have picked my words more carefully. What I really meant to say was that, since the exiting version may be unavailable to new purchasers, it will "break" many existing scenarios for them, as they will not be able to use many third party and Workshop scenarios featuring the 150/2 as is. They will of course be able to purchase the new AP version and substitute it into those scenarios via RwTools .

Here we go again with the old class 101 and class 37 packs that got pulled. so many people could not download scenarios for such a long time without the hassle of having to use RW Tools to replace the stock.
Never an issue to the "it's so easy" club.
Why does it have to be pulled?
Why cant AP just leave be and release theirs as a separate version?

It's not AP's decision to pull it, and as yet we don't know whether the AP release will replace or augment.
If you think using RW Tools is too much hassle you have the option not to download scenarios that feature stock you don't have, and course you could always create your own.
AP has stepped in to ensure that there's an available 150/2 and should be applauded not lambasted.
