One of the problems with the class 15 design and indeed the class 16 was because of the very restrictive British loading gauge, they were very narrow and squat compared to their American cousins, this meant an extremely restrictive field of view for the driver, making double manning essential. the class 20's were better in comparison because you could couple two together cab outwards and have a very good field of view. this is why the class 15/16 cab/body style was not repeated.

Quite the opposite, really - single-manning was not consideredcin those days because the second-man had other duties, like coupling-up and looking back. It was the English Electrics that had the poorest view, even double-manned, and this led to later using them in pairs as described. They had been built for local trip and passenger workings but the demand for both functions were dwindling so to find a use for them they were used in pairs with the cabs outwards with the equivalent output of the English Electric Type 4. The alternative would have been to scrap them but as BR had made the decision to standardise on them and order large numbers they were still being delivered! One assumes the standardisation decision was made on reliability as it certainly wasn't on visibility. I suspect the last deliveries never worked singly but the early ones did for many years.

Well, this looks AMAZING - a lot included in the package, lots of potential and that Warship model is just lovely.

I personally thought we might have had a release today but looks like I am wrong.

Patiently waiting still, have we had a release on a weekend before?

I think this weeks release is that New Haven electric locomotive, worse luck, still it will keep our American cousins happy

Well, still waiting but nevermind, just wanted to draw attention to a comment I made and the answer that was posted. Hopefully they stick with it and we get weathered Warships as well as the Hymek and Western look very well done.

Some of the Laira based loco's looked particularly scruffy, especially in later years, and according to someone that worked there a lot of it was down to the wash at Laira !
The pack looks very promising though doesn't it..

It would appear a great deal of effort has gone into producing this pack and I’ll definitely be purchasing it.

These classes were withdrawn long before I started spotting so I have no first-hand memories of them. Looking at flickr for scenario inspiration I note that class 50s were present at old oak common during the 70s.

Would the class 50’s have often visited the Riviera line during the time the locos in this pack were still in service?

Yours Kindly,

Jason

The Class 50s transferred to the Great Western in 1973/74 so there were certainly 52s still in traffic and there were still a few Hymeks about too. The Warships had already been withdrawn by the time Class 50s arrived.

There's a couple of photos on Flickr of 52s pulling failed 50s in fact.

I'm in to minds whether to get this pack or not,I already have the Western from DTG plus Mathew Wilson's class 52 mega pack, and I have also got the Hymek as well,so it's just really the Warship,I have the older version, but it hasn't got a proper cab

I was in two minds when the pack was first announced but will now make a point of buying on release now i've seen the subsequent updates. One major selling point for me is also everything being in one pack which will also be good for future use in scenarios.

As the creator of the Mega Pack I am also going to buy this straight away. The weathered liveries, Warship and the illuminated headcodes and proper marker and tailight on the Class 52 are what swing it for me. I hope AP consider updating the 52 sounds to support it but if not rest assured I'll be looking into an adapted mega pack given time.

Day one purchase for us as well.
So many of our scenarios feature a no longer available Western Region pack, this one should keep us busy for a while updating things.
Just a shame that it doesn't look like the Class 22 Baby Warship will form part of it, but who knows? Maybe it will be added in time...
