It's very easy to dismiss comments we don't like as rivet counting, but what if they're right, don't we want to improve?
No, because I didn't "make" them "for" the community, I just shared them and advising they weren't prototypical! Go figure....

Have you ever had such comments yourself about what you've produced/released?

Yes. My other (greater) hobby is scale model making and I like to exhibit what I make which inevitably leads to comments; most are complimentary, some critical, but it's the critical ones that are more valuable as they help me improve. If I've portrayed something that isn't right or a technique I've used could have been applied better then I absolutely want to be told it as I want my models to be the very best they can be.
When I was a Quality Manager at first I found demanding customers - i.e. the ones who complained a lot, sometimes without apparent reason - an irritation, but over time I came to realise that they were some of the most valuable customers as they challenged our thinking and forced us to get better, to tighten tolerances, to improve processes, to shorten lead-times etc.
If you put something in the public domain you must expect public comment and it won't always be favourable, but don't shut out criticism, it helps you get better! In the context of this thread, if I was JT and customer's weren't happy with my product I would want to know about it, so I could put it right and get even more customers in the future.

I was thinking more along the lines of game specific content, but yes, I know the feeling...but did any of them, when complaining, accuse you or your company of exhibiting a "cash grab and low effort" attitude towards your product and customers?
Steve has made numerous complaints/criticisms about the route, and been man enough to admit he made a mistake over one of them, but he's done so in a constructive manner---"this is wrong, can you add it to the list of things to fix?" rather than an 'in yer face, you're all money grabbing crooks' way, one which is guaranteed to raise heckles. Not from JT of course, they're (as a publishing company) professionals, and I'm sure will welcome notifications of what and where things are less than perfect. His complaints/criticisms are valid, nobody is arguing about that and he's conducted his evaluation in a fair and open handed manner.
Without reading the whole thread again to check, I'm of the belief that out of those complaining he's the only one to have actually purchased the route and the rest seem purely to be happy to 'bash' something---nowt from DTG to moan about so let's pick on the next best (worst?) thing. Even an earlier comment decrying JT's quality when compared to DTG's was tempered with the 'stage whisper' of "(scary to say)".

Just done a few runs around. I have to admit that I don't know the area apart from Castle Cary (thanks to many blurry trips to Glastonbury).
In summary, I love it. It's a beautiful part of the country and is a great edition to my collection. Those freightliner sidings look out of place though.

You mean, the kind of comments like: "These trains never ran on that route, this guy is too much of a dumbass to even know that"?
When you very well know that they never did but you don't care because
you just wanted to run that particular train there, right?
Not the kind of constructive feedback that helps you make better scenarios, better AI, etc.
It's not a case of improvement needed, because you made something for yourself, for your own pleasure only, and thought it would be nice to share it with other who might also enjoy it. But if others are just being asses instead of helpful, then why bother.

Exactly why some content (myself included) creators become discouraged. People complaining its not accurate or what they would of done. Those are the same people that are happy to sit and complain, yet never ever take the time to build anything for the community themselves. Generally the rule I go by, if I don't like it, don't play it. If I think I can do better...I will take the time to try and do better

and why is the "morning stopper" starting at Bath and not BTM and the traction is a SWT 158
Steve
Nothing unusual seeing an SWT 158. 159s have been mentioned, but an SWT 158 was on long term loan to FGW, I've seen it do the Melksham service, Worcester, stroud valley, Weymouth, Bristol - Westbury shuttles ect.
Finally an addon that covers my patch down Westbury end!!
Looking forward to trying this. Last time I saw a thread with a bunch of complaints and rivet counting about the route, I bought it and actually ended up enjoying it!
Ah yes, I remember that too - nice first class !! - but why start it at Bath instead of Bristol TM,then with stops at Keynsham & Oldfield Park included - this will be raised to JT but doubt it can be / will be changed.
When you purchase this can you (no doubt you will seeing you like me are local you even more to me) take a look around Trowbridge Stn and see my point about things that are not right, Trowbridge ticket office will be another example - its a brick wall !.
Also the Level crossing at Bradford On avon from the Westbury side, should this be protected by a signal ?
Avoncliff (Halt)
Dundass aquaduct
Kennet & avon canel issue with slope
Hawkeridge Jcn name
Bath spa station
the Lorry park instead of the bus station at Bath
I happen to like the stretch from Taunton to Westbury (apart from Fairwood Jcn)
I look forward to your comments, cheers
Steve
Do you have a picture of Trowbridge station? That's my local 5 mins down the road.
Bradford on Avon level crossing is protected by signals yes, but not directly by the crossing if that makes sense. I don't know how it's modelled in the sim, but going south, there should be a starter signal at Bradford on Avon. This is also a signal protecting the crossing. In reality there are two buttons at Westbury Power Signal Box. One in non-stop which clears the signal for fast trains, obviously not used often, and the other is stopping. This will hold the signal at red. When a south bound train stops, the guard gets out and presses a button on the platform. This then lowers the barriers, and then the signal will clear to green when they are down.

If I pay for something I expect that reasonable accuracy should be applied by research of the area / station. Things like mature trees being placed through stairs and a help point going through railings should be picked up in testing out and corrected, its just not good enough.
There are other areas that should have been spotted and corrected - which even if you knew the area or not should not have been left as they are.
I will leave the route creation to others, after all that what I am paying for but a bit more care would not go a miss.

Clearly not.
Steve, I do understand where you're coming from but there comes a time when one has to ask: how many times are you going to mention these errors here? This is getting tedious - why not just use JT's support serve and have this issue out with the people from whom you bought it?
