Class 68 Chiltern Railways
I need to find the above locomotive to run in the Just Trains Chiltern Main Line route scenario '1U50'.
I downloaded the class 68 from steam, but that is a Scotrail version.
Does anyone know from where I can download the locomotive I need, so I can run the scenario?
Many thanks,
Stuart.

Re: Class 68 Chiltern Railways
The installation of JT Chiltern Mainline includes reskin for the class 68 which should install automatically, if you bought the scot rail 68 from steam after installing the chiltern mainline you will probaly need to un-install and reinstall the Chiltern mainline so the reskin can be installed from that.

Re: Class 68 Chiltern Railways
Probably a bit late, as you'll have un-installed/re-installed the route by now, but the Class 68 is also at http://www.vulcanproductions.co.uk/dies ... loads.html
Don't be so quick to uninstall stuff, there's usually no need to get rid of something that works in order to add other assets---none of them are particularly that tied to the installer.

Silly me I should have known by now that my advice would be scoffed at by some on here, I just thought why bother downloading and installing something else when you already have the thing that is required, but nevermind.

Re: Class 68 Chiltern Railways
Why get so sensitive? Gary's advice is VERY sound. There is far too much general advice thrown around such as "reinstall", or "verify the files", which can be far more invasive (and maybe destructive) than a simpler alternative.davejc64 wrote:Silly me I should have known by now that my advice would be scoffed at by some on here, I just thought why bother downloading and installing something else when you already have the thing that is required, but nevermind.
The problem with a JT installation is that it is a single .exe file that completely installs/over-writes everything, no opportunity to selectively copy over specific assets or files (other than for very techy people). Unless there is a major problem with the whole route or a significant overall update, then reinstalling is taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut, when all that is required is a specific loco reskin. Reinstalling should be a last resort, not the first option.
Gary was not SCOFFING at you. He was offering sound advice to the poster earwigo, as was Ash in giving a UKTS file number.

Are you sure? Installing a 3rd party reskin of unknown provenance rather than that provided with the route in question seems unsound to me. It relies on the user installing it correctly and it being the same as that provided by JT. In this case a re-installation of the product seems a very wise course of action to me.chrisonline wrote:Why get so sensitive? Re: Class 68 Chiltern Railways
I wouldn't exactly say that the reskin is of "unknown provenance" - Superalbs is quite well known for producing quality reskins these days. This particular one has been downloaded 519 times since being uploaded to the library, with no adverse comments on the downloads page. Seems pretty reliable to me.AndyUK wrote:Are you sure? This forum is amazing.
One simple request for advice regarding a repaint ends up in a discussion about said advice.

Re: Class 68 Chiltern Railways
The confusion and discussion comes about because there were four freeware reskins of the Class 68 in Chiltern livery before the release of JT Chiltern Mainline route.
I was approached about the inclusion of mine with the route by JT along with the accompanying power door Mk3s carriages that I made.

Re: Class 68 Chiltern Railways
Gary 's advice though wasn't to install an unknown reskin , just the right one from a different source to avoid throwing away a perfectly good route installation.AndyUK wrote:Are you sure? Relying on the user installing things correctly is of course paramount, probably why JT have prior ownership of the DTG Class 68 as a pre-requisite.

Re: Class 68 Chiltern Railways
There's a case to be made that when installing from any .exe installer, the initial installation being to a location outside of the game. Those extracted/installed folders then being copied and archived somewhere safe. Running the installer again (twice in the case of JT ones as a re-run removes any existing installation) to properly get the goodies in the game gives you a very handy backup of what the installer actually contained, if ever there's a need for a quick repair. Think about it; in the absence of a backup any repair to the Chiltern 68, say a missing number texture, means you'd be deleting the whole route by running the installer again. The hammer gets bigger, or the nut gets smaller, when you consider more future eventualities.

Well what I suggested would've worked, and at that point I will bow out of the debate and leave it at that.
